Verizon Plans to Discontinue 1-year Contracts Effective April 17

Sucks but I upgrade so often that I was planning to start buying my devices full retail anyway :(

ridiculous. at least my upgrade time is later this year so i can see some full reviews and get an idea of what's ahead before i pull the trigger.

My two middle fingers are pointed directly at Verizon. This just proves what sheep we've become. Sure we'll b!tch & moan, but in the end, we will conform.

unfortunately you are correct...i was just thinking about upgrading to a 1 year contract when the bionic comes out. i can only pray that the phone comes out on or before the 17th if not then i'm on another 2 year ride...this sucks!

Yea I highly doubt the Droid Bionic will be out by April 17th, seeing as its the 7th now.

Verizon needs to support a phone for two years since that's the only option will have

Does any other carrier have a one year option? I honestly do not know. I am irritated but in the past year I have traded 5 phones and brought two for full retail while selling two. There is always someone out there that is stuck in a contract that wants a newer phone. So I brought the Thunderbolt full retail after selling my Fascinate for 300 dollars and will use my upgrade discount for the Bionic and then sell either the TB or Bionic after trying out the Bionic.

More than kind of. After slogging out most of a two-year with the original Droid, I can't see doing that again for anything less than a newly released Nexus M type phone.

Highly annoyed and looking for other options.

For the first time I may consider crappy service for more freedom.

The problem I see is that the smartphone market changes drastically in 6months much less 2 years. A 2 year old smartphone is ancient. Add that to the fact that updates take awhile (if ever...Motorola Devour). It will not be good to be in a phone for 2 years.

And that's how the US got Obama....what a bunch of suckers.

Anyway, I hope Verizon loses lots of customers to AT&T as they expand. The Verizon policy changes over the last year have been absurd !!

AT&T does 6 Month upgrades on Bussiness lines !!!:D

att still has it 1 to 2 year contracts, but i'm waiting for mine to end and switch companies

I've been waiting out my probably switch to Android from a BB... went to Verizon store earlier, as I was considering a one-year deal. Asked the guy about it, and he said he also thought it was the 17th, but would check. It was a big debate at the sales counter, and he ends up telling me that the 15th (yesterday) was the last day?

I left with nothing. For now.

Communication on the issue hasnt been that great from what I saw. Last week I was talking to a rep and mentioned the change and she was like "really?" then glanced at a coworker who nodded.

The date is still the 17th, they should be able to do it in store, or on the phone with customer service...

of course, in store they may try to play you like a pawn in a chess game to get you to get that 2 year contract and hook you....

(edit, totally just realized today is the last day)
