Hi. I'm about to get my 5th SGN. How about you?

NEW Phone 1: Launch day phone. Screen had problems.

CLN Phone 2: Vibrate broke sometime in March. Worked for about 5 months otherwise.

CLN Phone 3: Connection goes to all gray bars every few hours. Have to reboot to get calls/internet. Airplane toggle doesn't fix it. Used phone for a few days while diagnosing this.

CLN Phone 4: Signal goes to small "x" with no bars every minute or two. Couldn't even use the phone to call VZW to tell them it didn't work. Can't even log into my Google acct. b/f it dies. Of course, it came with 404 and the latest radios. I even tried reflashing the 402 official Google image and reflashed radios with that. Still no dice.

CLN Phone 5: Shipped today! This time I'm getting a new SIM card too. Yippee! Nevermind that I can move my SIM card between phones 3 and 4 and get completely different failures at will. No way its the SIM card.

Called VZW to complain today. Do they even test the phones they send out as refurbs? I doubt it. Any testing at all would have shown phone 4 not to work.

They are totally happy just to keep sending out refurbs all day long. When CLN Phone 4 showed up practically DOA today, I was going to call VZW and cancel the contract and go with Tmo. But then I remembered that I have the grandfathered unlimited data.

So I settled for another POS SGN CLN.

By the time I get one that works decently enough, the GS3 will be out. I'll just sell whatever SGN refurb I'm on then and get a GS3.

But really, I'm getting concerned about Sammy's QC here. There shouldn't be THAT many bad phones out there. Perhaps they are making too many too quickly now.

I've had two GNs.

I got one on launch day. It worked perfectly fine until I dropped it on the ground and the screen cracked.

I got a replacement through Asurion. It's working perfectly fine.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

Went though a ton myself, be patient and you will FINALLY get one that works I hope anyway, keep your fingers crossed!

I feel really bad for everyone that's had to go through this problem. When you buy a smartphone. You expect it to work. Ive had the same nexus since the day I got it. Which was about a week or so after launch. My wife got hers on launch day and its been great as well.

Experienced my first problem the other day. I'm a field mechanic so I'm constantly using my GPS to get from job to job. I had no connection to Google services. GPS didn't work. I didn't have a network connection. There were times that I had a little X in the signal area. All of this happening while I was on the freeway. Heading in the general direction of my next job. I was seriously pissed. Rebooted twice.

I understand a lot of people have been offered a razr and in some cases a razr maxx. I do not like Motorola devices and will not accept or buy another. Got the Droid1 in exchange for my POS blackberry. The D1 was awesome considering I came from BB. Soon it ran so slow. I bought a droidX out of contract. FAIL. I bought a Bionic as well. FAIL. I will not accept a razr.

With ALL of that being said. I wish the very best of luck to everyone that is out there having repeated problems. After the 2nd device being sent out...enough is enough. If and when I need my phone for an emergency situation. I NEED THE DAMN THING TO WORK!

Have a nice day :D

lol.... I had 7 refurb thunderbolts and everyone of them was a piece of . VZW says they do some huge point inspection when I don't think they really do . 3 of them the power buttons didn't even work so phone would never turn on/boot. LOL. Stupid VZW.

I had to send a thunderbolt back to vzw when I had mine. It was rooted with S-on. I couldn't get the device back to complete stock so I said funk it. Sent it back and didn't hear a single thing about it. There are far too many devices coming back to Verizon that they just don't have the time to look at every single return. Verizon accepts the return. Ships them back to the manufacturer... then they go through QA. Now how thorough they check devices. Who knows. Verizon will get them back and slam em on a shelf. Ready for the next call that comes in and needs a refurb unit.

If you buy the phone off-contract and pay retail, do you still get stuck with refurbs after the 2 week period, or is it handled differently?

I've bought my last few devices out of contract. Still got refurbs

It's a crap shoot as to what you get. I had to replace my original Gnex due to 4G issues on 6/13, and the "CLN" phone I received was brand new, with a build date of 5/29/2012. This one is dead nuts, but I was lucky.....other people......not so much.

these are horror stories. I guess they rather deal with issues when they come up on refurbished phones, than spend time and man hour checking and verifying phones before sending them to customers.

I know of some others business that do that. Some car dealerships when they buy a used car for trade in, all they do is to wash it and then sell it and hope for the best. If the customer comes back with an issue within the mandatory warranty period, then they deal with the issue, if not they consider that they have saved quite a bit by not inspecting and fixing whatever needed fixing.

I got a refurbish SGN from VZW last week, which has the same exact problem as my current phone. Meaning they didn't check to see if this phone was performing better than the phone they were replacing. So I sent it to Samsung for them to fix it. Will see if Sammy will deliver to fail.

It's very discouraging that there are so many problems with the GNex. I was still within my 14 day trial and was having problems with low signal killing my battery so I exchanged it for a new one. This one could barely get a signal at all so we tried another brand new GNex and had the same problem. I left with my original GNex and will most likely change to either the SIII or Maxx. Too bad cause I like the phone otherwise.

I don't know what I'm gonna do either. I've dropped data for a total of 4 times today. I need my phone for navigation throughout the week. This is pure b*llsh*t. I'm betting once I send this response. Data will drop again. Airplane mode on then off. Reboot. Oh man. I've never had these problems. I'm sitting next to my wife and she's had no problems or data drops at all.

You do realize Samsung is the one who refurbishes the phone before Verizon sends them out right?

Oh yeah. I personally know this tidbit of info. Verizon is just the middle man.

Did not know that. So, we all can blame Samsung now. That's good, cause they got a phone from me to fix. I hope they give up and send me a SIII instead. :)

Verizon doesn't have the time to check all devices. There are too many. Every time I call support I find myself knowing way more than the tech on the line. I have yet to talk to one that teaches ME something.

Persistence. If it doesn't look and work "new" (vzw's words, not mine) do not accept the defective replacement. It took 5 "certified like new" devices, but now it's like new. If you're getting data drops and/or cycling between data modes in a known strong 4g area, the handset is defective, period. Replacement number 5 works perfect. Don't settle for less. My theory is after a particular device is sent back enough times by enough customers, they finally pull it out of stock.

I just got my 4th SGN today. The phone I got on launch day was nice until it decided to go berserk on me one day and had to get it replaced. All of my CLN devices dropped data like crazy. So far the one I got today seems to be working fine.

Was told from the VZW guy to contact Verizon Customer Service and see about having them put a note on my account to allow me to switch to a different device if this CLN did not work. You might want to look into that before selling and getting the GSIII.

THe only problem with switching to a different device is they want you to switch to a Razr or a Droid 4, both of which are older phones, not to mention they are motorola and serverly lacking in the support or upgradability. I went through 3 replacement phones before i just went back to my initial one (Never sent any of the replacements back till i had the issue resolved) because they told me the issue i was having was a software glitch. (The mic would mute mid call and had to hang up and call back, or after going to speakerphone and back i would have no mic or sound out of the phone unless it was on speaker). I refuse to go to a Moto phone after the nightmare i had with both the D1 and the Bionic... I am waiting a few months and if they don't release a software update i will go through all this again and try to get myself a SIII
