Due to a mishap, I was forced to get a replacement phone for my old Rezound. I chose the S3 over the Rezound because it does have newer hardware, and was actually priced lower than the Rezound! The current prices are:

$649.99: Nexus, Maxx, Rezound, S3-32MB
$599.99: Razr, S3-16MB

and things go down from there. I did not include iPhones.

I thought I saw the Nexus under $600.00 at one time too, but now it's back up. What gives?

you are comparing a 16GB SGS to a 32GB ReZound....there is your $50

The rezound and gs3 16gb have same internal storage. I prefer the GSIII partitioning as you get one large internal partition for apps, music, storage, etc. Rezound has about a 2gb app storage partition, then a regular storage partition. Although, I do like that the rezound acts like a true usb stick, and doesn't have to use mtp.

If you really wanted equivalent storage, just buy a 16gb card, and that would cost you way less than $50.

Verizon intentionally keeps the msrp high for a long time. It will drop eventually the droid charge is at $500,so it had a drop.

One option would be to buy a cpo with full one year warranty, but you would need to call in or go to the store, it isn't listed online. Selection may vary, but seeing the age and popularity of the rezound, they may have it at a substantial discount. Ask for the no contract cpo price. Optionally, if you have a legacy family plan with less than 5 lines, you can add a line with a subsidized gs3, it my come out cheaper and then just put a dummy phone or basic phone on the new line.
