Verizon S3 update without sim?

I have a Verizon S3 that my son has been using on ATT. Will I be able to get the 4.4.3 update or must it be activated on Verizon network?

How is he using a CDMA Verizon phone on ATT system?

Because it, like all recent Verizon phones, is a "world phone". It only gets edge speed but everything works. My other son is using his Windows 8X Verizon phone on att. Gets hspa+ speeds but no picture messages. We also have a Verizon note 2 working on att. Everything works.

I recently switched to Att from Verizon....

Since it is a true CDMA Verizon phone I am taking a wild guess to say it would not update on AT&T. While you have gotten it to work on the AT&T it still needs to have the proper coded software

It is a bone stock Verizon S3. Right now it is not being used on att, nor Verizon. Of course, two days ago it shut off and I now cannot get it to turn back on. I have tried all the tricks...it is just dead. A year ago Samsung replaced the motherboard. Its probably bad again...
