Verizon S7/S7 edge Oreo update

That's not the Oreo update - that's just a vanilla security update, and I already have it.

I just checked - nothing available now for me for Oreo. But as others have noted, Verizon sends these out in batches.

When i posted the link it was for the Oreo update. Version has since pulled it and reverted the page to the last security update. They fooled us twice.

The update page is back to showing the Oreo update. Just to confirm I checked for the update on my phone, and it showed that I had the update available!

Yeah, mine too. Would have been nice if they had offered to download later when I got home and was on WiFi, but it was about 80% done by the time I noticed that it was doing this.

Back on the charger it goes.

Interesting. In the past, the most time consuming part of the updates were the step where it "Optimizes" all of the apps you have. What this did was optimize a subset of them, and then start the phone - the rest are finishing in the background.

The graphics for wireless charging changed. No longer a smoke-ring. Now a ring of dots.

I am going to wait for it to finish all of the background stuff before I fool with it too much more.

Make sure to decrypt (if applicable) your SD card before the upgrade, else you will lose the data it contains.

Yeah, I had it set up to not download and it still ran.

I also had to update apps afterward.

My reaction is "Meh". The phone still works the same as before, but I haven't found any new features that really excite me in any way. It will take a while to get through testing all of the edge cases - I sure hope that Android Pay didn't get broken again. Then again, I kind of got used to not using it.

It freed up about 2 gigs of space on my phone. Otherwise I mainly only notice the less contrasty / seemingly smaller fonts and icons.

I got it last night, I could care less, phone worked fine before, works fine now.

Just did the Oreo update to my VZ S7 Edge and my gallery app is jacked up. It will refresh the thumbnails less than half the time it is opened up. It will either take a very long time to display them or not at all and it will have to be closed and re-opened. I have rebooted several times and it has not helped.

Anyone else having issues with the Samsung gallery app not working after the Oreo update on the VZ S7E?

Try clearing the cache on the gallery app.
