I'm taking my first international trip with my Verizon S8+, and so far it's working great.

Verizon expanded it's $10/day roaming program to include Japan. I'm getting full LTE in Japan. Speeds are not as fast as stateside, but not slow either.

Welcome to Japan! It's good you have LTE. Many businesses in Japan still do not have wi-fi, although the number of savvy shops grows every day. Enjoy your trip!

Glad it is working for you :). If you really want to take advantage of Japan get one of their prepaid SIM cards and use that while you're there. Your phone is already unlocked so it will let you use it without an issue.

So is that literally $10 a day for when you are roaming there? So $300 a month?

I was headed over there but the trip was cancelled. I was actually thinking of getting a pay as you go T-Mobile plan since I was going to be there 3 months.

Thanks. I thought about that. I'm only here for a week though, so I thought Verizon's Travel Pass was the better option.

A co-worker of mine did that and had no problems. He was here longer though.

Yes. That is only while you have your phone's mobile data turned on. If you keep your phone in airplane mode and just turn on WiFi and BT, you won't be charged. That $10 covers a 24 hour period. Which means if you turn your data on for 1 day per week that would be $10 per week.

Since I was only going to be here for a week, it wasn't that big of a deal for me. I also planned on keeping it turned off except for my first and last days here. Unfortunately, Typhoon Talim chose otherwise. Because it was looking like it was going to hit us, I decided I needed full connectivity just in case.

In your case, getting a Japanese pre-paid SIM would be the better choice. Especially, if you need to be able to make calls the whole time you are here.
