Verizon Samsung Gear S2 3g

If for example I plan to go on a run with just watch. Will it automatically go into remote connection or do you have too set it every time? FYI, I have all the settings set to forward already. I do notice a pop up on phone that says call forwarding enabled when I purposely shut down phone Bluetooth. Does that mean I have to tap ok for it to enable or is it just a reminder?
What settings did you use for this? I thought you had to manually enable call forwarding and manually disable it each time? This is exactly what I have been wanting.

Just from the gear app. I just know that when I disconnect the Bluetooth after a couple seconds those pop ups come out on watch and phone about entering remote connection. Still don't know if it actually enters this mode when you tap on ok on both devices or if it's just like a reminder.

Yes, sorry forgot about the other questions. As for the second phone number, I don't have a problem with it. Then again I coming from the Gear S so I was already using the 2nd number.

General impressions, I am pleased with the watch and will be keeping it. The size is perfect for me. I am pleased with the apps that are available but then again, I don't expect this to do everything my S6 Edge can do. I don't want a smartphone on my wrist. I just got my bluetooth ear buds paired and I like that I don't have to take my phone with me everywhere. The look is cool and it does seem to do just about everything I want it to do.

I would like to see sleep tracking added back in to S Health as I did use that on occasion with my Gear S. Also wish S Voice was a little better and would like to be able set reminders through S Voice. Those things aren't deal breakers for me though. So far I would give it a 8/10.

Great that the S2 is performing well for you.
Two questions.

Since it is an upgrade from the Gear S, how much better is the S2 better than the S?

Did you keep the S?

BTW, the Omega Planet Ocean is the chit!

When I leave Bluetooth range I get a brief message that says leaving mobile network, when I am back in range it says connecting to mobile network. It doesn't ask me to do anything. When I turn off my phone I get a message that says it's turning on mobile network or something like that, I still don't need to do anything everything converts automatically. When I am out of Bluetooth range or phone is turned off I get a watch face icon on the top of my watch face. This goes away when I am connected to the phone. I am not sure how the WiFi plays in all this.

I've been messing with it right now. Can't get calls to show my number when disconnected from phone. SMS does. When I go to option on watch for outgoing number, it's greyed out with the watches number and it won't let me switch. When it connects back to phone the number changes along with the option to change.

This is correct. You will not be able to make a call from your watch using your phones phone number as of right now. Might change with a verizon messages update.

I am starting to see the downfall of no app support. For instance, I was to sync my podcasts to my watch. Right now I can't do that. However if beyond pod comes out with a companion app it could sync while connected BT. Textra same thing. They could come out with a companion app as well so we could see all our messages.

I have started to request gear support for apps within the Google play store. Maybe enough feedback we might see some changes.

It looks like on the Verizon version, you can set Settings -> Connections -> Mobile Networks -> Gear Network: Auto Switch and the watch will turn 3G on/off based on whether you're in BT range or not. This seems to work well, though it does not, as far as I can tell, auto-initiate call forwarding. However: I've been able to set call forwarding on/off while remotely connected, so you don't have to remember to set it before you are away from your phone.

I'm not sure I want to know what voodoo Samsung is doing such that email, text messages, and the ability to set call forwarding can be managed directly on the phone while remote connected over Verizon's network. One the one hand it's awesome. On the other hand it seems like a potential massive security hole.

I wonder if one could install an app that would text the watch number whenever a call is received on the phone. At least then when you're remote you'd get a notification that someone called, even if you forgot to set up forwarding.

All great points. Personally I leave call forwarding on all the time. But this defeats the purpose of gear connection because your 3g will be on all the time. I.was worried about what that would do to my battery however I did not see a significant difference. Maybe an extra percent an hour. I am not sure if the remote connect is verizon or if it is because of our samsung account and have both samsung products. I would be interested in hearing from non samsung phone folks and see if their watch still goes into remote mode. I would love to see this upgraded to be able to use our phone number when making calls.

Ah. This thread title says verizon... :)

I would love auto forwarding. Though at least even if I leave forwarding off I can at least get a remote notification that someone called, so while I can't listen to the voicemail I can text or call them back.

Why not just leave call forwarding on all the time. It will still ring to your phone first. Then your watch.

Because then I only get voicemail on the watch, and I prefer visual voicemail on the phone.
