Verizon selling 32GB microSD card for $100 when you buy a Droid X?

It is a class 2, but do you think that would affect application performance, or just transferring files via the SD card reader? I'm not sure but I wouldn't think you would notice a difference between a class 2 and a 6 in every day use.

I'm concerned about video recording performance. SD video would be fine but with HD video? It could very well stutter... Granted that depends on the bitrate the video is being recorded at.

EDIT: Here's a link that shows the stuttering on his Evo 4G recording at 720p on a class 2 card. On clip one, it starts around 0:30. http://androidforums.com/994569-post12.html

No problem, Cory. Since most HD camcorders (Flip HD, etc.) usually recommend Class 4 or 6 (class 6 being necessary for 1080p), I tend to stay with Class 4 and above and, thankfully, the card included with the X is a Class 4. I have a feeling Verizon is going to have some angry people buying the 32GB card and be miffed when their video is stuttering.

I was able to order the Droid X online, but no availability of the 32GB card at this time, in fact they had very few accessories available. The Chat support guy said that they expect to have them in the next few days. Oh well.

Everything I've seen indicates that Verizon is using class 2 card in this application. I know that's pretty slow, but if the phone can't move data any faster than the class 2 can support, (and I'm admittedly presuming that's the case here) why pay for more capability that isn't used?

I really doubt Verizon's engineers would be naive enough to use a memory that can't fully support the functionality of the phone. That would be like Apple engineers putting the antenna on the outside of the iphone, so that you could short it out with your sweaty hand. Oh, wait....

The phone can move faster than what Class 2 speeds are. Almost all modern smartphones can accept at least Class 4, even if it's undocumented. The included 16GB card is Class 4 and with the class ranges ranging widely in pricing, Verizon wouldn't have included the Class 4 version of it unless they knew it would work.

!!!!!! Warning!!!!! Warning!!!!!
To all of those thinking of buying this 32gb sd card hold your wallets.. People this is a class 2 card. Remember this phone is a very fast & powerfull machine with a stunning 8mp camera and 720p video.. I dought if you want to put a very, very, very slow processing class 2 memory card in it. The best route is to purchase a 16gb class 6 sd card for 79.99 and really enjoy the speed of taking pictures and recording video.. Trust the 32gb their trying to sell u for $100 bucks is no match for a 16gb class 6 for $79.99.
If u are confused by this post just google class 2 vs class 6 micro sd memory cards.. The rest is history....

I pointed this out a page ago and gave video examples...

So is a 16GB class 6 card really going to be that much faster than a class 4 to justify the price? And I can't even find any class 6 32gb microsdhc cards on the internet. Newegg doesn't even have any

As far as I know, there are NO class 4 or class 6 32GB microSD cards. If they're available, they are extremely expensive. I'm not sure about the difference between class 4 and class 6 in the Droid X since Verizon is including the class 4. If you want the fastest speeds, splurge for the class 6. Otherwise, I think the class 4 will be fine for the majority of the users.

What came with the OG MOTO DROID? I stole the card from my old moto droid for my DINC, and was just going to sell my DINC with the 16gig from the X so I dont have to transfer things many many times.

MY MOTO had a class 2 16gb the DX has a class 4 16gb.

I expect you are right about the issues with use of slow memory cards, especially the stuttering video/audio problem. I'm looking forward to getting my X tomorrow, and eager to play with the still and video recording capabilities.

Verizon is putting out conflicting information regarding the class of the included 16gb card. The picture of the card in the Verizon Droidx_Launch Package file shows it as a class 2, and I would swear I saw a 2 on one of the review videos that showed removal and insertion of the card, but if they are actually shipping with class 4, that is a positive bit of news, I think.

I'm also wondering about the possible effects of background processes in action while recording HD video, and the potential for dropped frames.

$74 32 gig sd card

I got my phone at the verizon store today. They were great. I had made an appt for 8AM but I didn't get there until 3PM. They held a phone for me.

I told him I wanted the $99 32 gig card. He scanned it into the computer and it came back as $74. I don't know why but I'm not complaining.

One unrelated question.
I used the USB cable that comes with the charger to connect to my computer. Nothing happens, the computer and phone do nothing, like it is not connected.

Any tips?

BTW the phone is AWESOME. I'm coming from a Pre.

you prob the 20 percent discount for accessories i got it too lo..as for computer mine did that at first then a little window popped up saying install moto drivers..i have a windows 7
