Hey all, I am going to be taking a cruise next week to Cozumel Mexico and Grand Cayman. I was trying to get straight info from verizon's website and can't find anything outlining internet usage and MMS usage in foreign countries such as these two.
I see the roaming rates for making calls, but I won't be calling anyone. I am a Facebook addict and want to post pictures to my FB account via my Motorola Droid, and want to update my Blog from those locations as well. Is there a major charge for MMS and internet usage (providing I am in a good 3G locale...I think Cozumel has a 3G netwrok over there)? I don't want to be over there going nuts posting status updates and pics only to get home and get raped by Verizon with a $500 bill. Anyone have any idea where I can find this info or does anyone have firsthand knowledge of the cost involved? Thanks in advance. :p

Call them up.

What you'll want to do is sign up for their international Data package (I believe it is 64.99.. don't think this is unlimited) and also change your plan to a Nationwide+Mexico plan. Not sure what MMS will cost.

Then when you get back, have them switch back to your normal plan at the end of the month.

DO NOT use your phone unless you have to on the Cruise ship (or anywhere near it) no matter what kind of plan you have you'll get killed in roaming charges because Cruise ships host their own towers and charge an arm and a leg for them.

The global data plan now includes Unlimited data on a cruiseship for 64.99 a month (prorated for less than a month). When looking for information online, make sure to look with your eyes opened because its right here. And infor mation regarding using your phone in Mexico is right here.

Nice.. glad they finally included cruise ships.. Had a cousin that got hit BAD with roaming data charges just a few years ago.

Yeah it's fairly recent that they included it. I wish they had it when I went on my cruise...

Preparing to go on a cruise myself.

After talking with Verizon it appears there is no longer an unlimited national plan as discussed here?

No, they got rid of that about a year ago. Call their Global Support, they can go over plans with you.

Looks like there are small MB limits with all packages, $25 for 50MB if I remember what she said right, either way, way too little for me to be worth it.

Guess it's airplane mode :(

Just look for a free wifi restaurant. Last time I was on a cruise the maps they handed out showed where they were.

Go airplane, make sure your sd card is clear or grab another and use your phone for video, photos and the front camera for self reflections. Make a rezountage. Be the coolest of your friends with a smart phone....or do what I do on cruises....be sober as little as possible and hit on every cute European card dealer like a "typical" tourist.

Oh and have fun!!!!

besides, it's a frickin cruise, get off your phone and enjoy some tropical goodness. When I went, I took my phone, it was my alarm and for use when I came back to port.

Yea, I am sure it'll be fine, I am just so used to living with the stream of handy data coming into my Android.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
