Just received an update from Verizon. It looks like the August security patch.

Loaded and is running smoothly! As usual, did a cache partition clear prior... will do another soon.

It's a little awkward... you hold the top Bixby button, the lower Bixby button at the very top of it and the power button all at the same time. Press and hold for a few seconds. If the process, catches and works, you will go through a bunch of menus to follow, one step at a time. Use the bottom of the Top Bixby button to navigate down... or the top to move up. The power button with a press accepts the choice and moves you to the next prompt. Be patient. You will be looking for the cache partition Then you will reboot at the last prompt and be patient, you're done.

What do you mean the top Bixby button and the lower Bixby button at the very top of it? Isn't there only one Bixby button?

Turn off the device.

Press and hold the Volume Upkey and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.

When the green Android logo displays, release all keys ('Installing system update' will show for about 30 - 60 seconds before showing the Android system recovery menu options).

Press the Volume down key several times to highlight 'wipe cache partition'.

Press Power button to select.

Press the Volume down key until 'yes' is highlighted and press the Power button.

When the wipe cache partition is complete, “Reboot system now” is highlighted.

Press the Power key to restart the device.

What is the benefit from wiping the cache partition before an update? I have never done this before any updates. Should this be done every time just before the update is downloaded or clear the cache partition as part of a regular maintenance routine? Just looking for an idea of if/when the cache partition should be done? I am just looking to learn some more about how to keep my note 8 running at top notch condition.

my wifi keeps disconnecting and then coming right back multiple times a day with no issues previous to update

Wiping the cache partition removes any lingering

Here is a good explanation,

The system cache partition stores temporary system data. It's supposed to allow the system to access apps more quickly and efficiently, but sometimes things get cluttered and outdated, so a periodic cache clearing can help make the system run more smoothly.

Did mine last night. Then turned it off since I have the note9. So I wouldn't know if any issues yet lol. I usually don't have any problems. Knock on wood. Probably jinxed myself lol.

I thought that was called the dalvik cache and it held compiled app code so the apps can run faster because they do not have to go through runtime interpretation every time they are used...?

Not sure why, but landscape view for home screen is now supported. In the past screen rotation was not supported, you had to use another launcher to get that feature.

That's a Samsung Experience update. Not long after updating, Samsung Experience (formerly TouchWiz) wanted to update. I use Microsoft Launcher so, it's a moot point for me.

That option was available prior to the latest patch.

How did you get that "Portrait mode only" selection to appear in the Home screen settings?
