I still have not seen 5G in any of the areas where I live. The coverage map shows I should have it at the house, but I've not seen it in the area yet. I did pass through a couple of major cities a few days ago, and I did get 5G there, but I did not test the speeds.Fastest internet I have ever experienced, wired or wireless. Problem is, there are different types of 5G on Verizon. This particular day I got the fastest service. Then there is the slower 5G they rolled out with the patch last week. My understanding, is that they can upgrade those existing 4G towers quickly and easily. It's basically slower 4G speeds.
I did have high hopes for it though, because I checked the service maps on the Verizon web site and it showed I would have service in some areas I frequent often. I went to those areas, and sadly they are still 4G. I do get the slower 5G in some areas, but not in the ones the map says I should. Not real impressed so far, other than the day I did the speed test that I'm posting
The 5G icon appeared on my two phones so I took a screenshot to commemorate the big moment. Reminds me of how it felt when 4G started spreading out on Verizon in 2011.
Have you received an update?I have yet to see the 5G icon but the VZW map shows it.

I was surprised. I'm in southeastern Pennsylvania and 4G has been solid here for several years. I turned off the WiFi on my Note20 Ultra with Xfinity Mobile just to see if I would notice any difference in performance but there's no real impression that it's demonstrably 'better. Maybe it's time to run a speed test via the Ring app if it allows me.
PS: Forgot that Ring is independently synced to the home's WiFi. (slaps head)
There is a separate update for 5G unless you have Android 11 betaLast update was on Oct 7th
Can't you just run a speed test with the Ookla app?I was surprised. I'm in southeastern Pennsylvania and 4G has been solid here for several years. Actually, Android 11 isn't out for the Note 20 yet, it's out for the S20 but it's full. So yes, you would have to wait for the update. No don't have Android 11 ,guess I will have to wait from this update
It's not just Verizon. AT&T is the same way. Map says 5G where I live and it's still 4G. They did the same exact thing years ago when 4G was coming out. Always jumping the gun on the map updates.
Far as I'm concerned we could stay on 4G.It's about getting the hype out there so people will start throwing around the cash, then once people are comfortable with the more expensive phones and monthly bills they'll start making the promises of how neat 5G will be when they get it out to you..... whenever that may be. It's the same premise behind pre-orders. You're just pre-ordering an idea that will hopefully become a reality. Alot like pre-ordering a video game from Bethesda lol.
