Verizon turned on 5G nationwide.

Fastest internet I have ever experienced, wired or wireless. Problem is, there are different types of 5G on Verizon. This particular day I got the fastest service. Then there is the slower 5G they rolled out with the patch last week. My understanding, is that they can upgrade those existing 4G towers quickly and easily. It's basically slower 4G speeds.

I did have high hopes for it though, because I checked the service maps on the Verizon web site and it showed I would have service in some areas I frequent often. I went to those areas, and sadly they are still 4G. I do get the slower 5G in some areas, but not in the ones the map says I should. Not real impressed so far, other than the day I did the speed test that I'm posting

I still have not seen 5G in any of the areas where I live. The coverage map shows I should have it at the house, but I've not seen it in the area yet. I did pass through a couple of major cities a few days ago, and I did get 5G there, but I did not test the speeds.

I don't expect to be impressed with the 5G "nation wide" signal speeds. More just want to see that they are working on it, at least. I expect it will still be a few years until we get true wide spread 5G ultra wide band speeds.

The 5G icon appeared on my two phones so I took a screenshot to commemorate the big moment. Reminds me of how it felt when 4G started spreading out on Verizon in 2011.

I have yet to see the 5G icon but the VZW map shows it.

It's not just Verizon. AT&T is the same way. Map says 5G where I live and it's still 4G. They did the same exact thing years ago when 4G was coming out. Always jumping the gun on the map updates.

I was surprised. I'm in southeastern Pennsylvania and 4G has been solid here for several years. I turned off the WiFi on my Note20 Ultra with Xfinity Mobile just to see if I would notice any difference in performance but there's no real impression that it's demonstrably 'better. Maybe it's time to run a speed test via the Ring app if it allows me.

PS: Forgot that Ring is independently synced to the home's WiFi. (slaps head)

Half of what I get on WiFi

5G icon and speeds are up; Los Angeles. When driving around the city, it's sporadic. However, I get a strong, consistentl signal at home.

Can't you just run a speed test with the Ookla app?

No don't have Android 11 ,guess I will have to wait from this update
Actually, Android 11 isn't out for the Note 20 yet, it's out for the S20 but it's full. So yes, you would have to wait for the update.

It's about getting the hype out there so people will start throwing around the cash, then once people are comfortable with the more expensive phones and monthly bills they'll start making the promises of how neat 5G will be when they get it out to you..... whenever that may be. It's the same premise behind pre-orders. You're just pre-ordering an idea that will hopefully become a reality. Alot like pre-ordering a video game from Bethesda lol.

Far as I'm concerned we could stay on 4G.

I hadn't had anything like that downloaded. I downloaded two apps and saw 37MBS and 1.5MBS. The only time I've ever run a speed test was in association with the setup of Ring.
