Hey guys, I am in a bit of a pickle here. I won't go into too much of a detail about my situation, but mostly skim over the basics.

I have been with T-Mobile for years and never had any major issues. Late last year we switched our business account to Verizon and then had a number of problems with the rep who set up our account. After long hours with customer care, store manager we were finally able to get everything taken care of and got a very good plan on top of ton of credits.

Fast forward to now, we ended up jumping back and forth between T-Mobile and Verizon 3 times now... I know, trust me, not pretty.. Why? Well, we ended getting screwed over when we paid off our financed devices and had to make a decision to switch back. After paying off $1500 worth of Edge agreements we were told that we couldn't finance new devices for 30 days and that there wasn't a thing they could do... that was an issue.

Now, we ended up back at T-Mobile because my business partner had to cancel his broadband connection and was using way more data on the device. We have 30gb shared web for $130, which was getting stranded. Also, T-Mobile works way better at his place he gets 75-80mbps download speeds vs Verizon's 10mbps which tends to drop to 3G :(.

We live and work in Atlanta and around my area of Sandy Springs I constantly get amazing speeds on T-Mobile. There are few buildings where I do get subpar performance, most of the time no data and dropped calls. Verizon is fine for the most part, tends to be slower though.

Issue here is that ever since we switched to T-Mobile we received a contract that has us traveling way more and T-Mobile seems to have been giving us a ton of coverage issues in the city at that, which I didn't know would be possible as Metro Atlanta area supposedly is very good on T-MObile according to Rootmetrics. So, Verizon is offering us a good deal to return to them and we have jumped through hoops to get our account fixed before, even spoke with executive services.

As far as monthly cost goes, T-MObile is about $50/mo cheaper than Verizon for unlimited web, vs 30gb on Verizon. Money isn't a huge issue right now, but coverage and overall network performance is. I know that T-Mobile uses higher bands which results in poor indoor coverage as well as need for way more cell sites. But, from what I hear they do have way more capacity.

In your opinion, if you were planning to pick a carrier for the next 24 months or so, which would it be? I hear that Verizon is doing a lot with their network these days, but same could be said about T-Mobile. Which network is going to have more reliable performance, specifically with data, within the next couple of years? Rural coverage isn't a huge issue for us.

Impossible to say honestly. The next two years will see a lot of refarming of old bands into higher standards from what I understand. Verizon and TMO are both rushing headlong into this. Hell... in the next 2 years Sprint promises to be larger than AT&T or Verizon, so the field could be far more dynamic than either of us might expect.

One thing to keep in mind is the 700 MHz band that TMO is currently beginning to roll out on their phones and towers. Supposedly to give better in building signal. It sounds like you had one hell of a time with Verizon. I'd go with whatever carrier you think will give you less paperwork troubles. (Mind you I had some serious issues with TMO.) uhh... so... cheaper service I guess?

Idk how much you're paying and what not, but you can buy/rent unlimited att and Verizon plans on eBay. If you buy you're throwing a lot down at first, and then just the bill.

I just recently bought an att unlimited domestic and international data plan, cost me $850, and its a business account. Bill runs me about $130 a month!

I have a Verizon unlimited data plan as well, about the same price. Verizon has better LTE coverage for sure. But att is a lot faster where I live. Plus I enjoy the international data.

You could also rent an unlimited data hotspot and use it for WiFi calling! All these sold on eBay :)

Also want to add, the att plan isn't throttled just like the Verizon one because of the type of plan it is. And I've tethered a lot with both. Verizon can't do anything and att hasn't said a word.

Verizon customer serivce for me has always been sub-par. And lately, I have been having issues with most calls...so it isn't surprising that you had issues with customer service. Don't expect anything different if you switch back to Verizon.

With regards to the edge 30 day requirement, that has been eliminated.

Rootmetrics is a good overall guide, however, signal varies so much from area to area, even within the same city, and sometimes, even within the same building. If you plan to use service at certain places frequently (home, work, gym, etc), then you need to try it in the exact locations where you need it.

Now if tmobile doesn't give you good service where you need it, and network is more important than customer service, then Verizon is a good choice.

All carriers will improve, but important to you is if they improve where you need it. And that, no one can tell. Overall for traveling, I suspect that Verizon will still be number one overall in 2 years. However, perhaps Tmobile will improve to be adequate for your needs - no one can make any guarantees.

Personally, if you are having trouble now with T-mobile traveling then i would just switch. You can always switch back to T-Mobile, and certain devices like the Verizon iPhone 5s/5c/6/6p are fully compatible on Tmobile. So you wouldn't have to re-buy phones. Unfortunately, most androids will have limited compatibility.
