Verizon's May 22nd Announcement

Being Latino myself, I just don't get the point of this and find it very bizarre. I know businesses like to target specific demographics and cultures if there's demand for it, but I find it hard to believe there's such a high demand for a "Latino wireless shopping experience". Seems like a rather small niche that doesn't really need a national press release. I can see this being a more regional thing.

I also wouldn't call this initiative racist but it's seems to certainly paint Latinos in a stereotypical light. Oh, the lunacy...

From a marketing perspective, the general strategy makes sense. The Hispanic/Latino segment of the population is growing at a disproportionate rate compared to other demographics.

Oh, and I stand behind my prediction that there will not be a HTC One for VZW. But there may be a J Lo branded HTC handset that kind of looks like it . . .

Holy crap - I feel about 100x better about the S4 I just preordered yesterday. I'll have my S4 tomorrow - was really worried I'd screwed up and was going to miss out on the Verizon One.

Sorry everyone - get your S4 while you can.

So you are going for a particular culture as your target demographic, so who do you invite to your press conference? You don't invite people that are interested almost exclusively in the tech side of things rather than marketing and business.

Still not as big a let down as the iPhone 4s announcement (zing!)

I agree. Are there really latinos who aren't buying phoens because they aren't comfortable in a "white" store?

Funny how we have kind of round tripped it back to separate but equal as a society in a more justified fashion. Stupid.

I love how she just said the store will have lots of cases and covers in lots of fun colors. This is so bizarre.

"Separate but equal" seems to be fine, as long as it is the minorities that separate themselves.

(I make that comment jokingly, but honestly, there is a difference between that and being forced into "separate but equal" polices)

I didnt watch it past a few minutes:eek:,stopped it and started reading posts. That was a long winded way to announce it tho.

I also have a feeling that if JLo wasn't the major shareholder, this wouldn't have been an "event"...just seems like showmanship to some degree.

Jesus christ, just watched it and all I can say right now is : What a stupid event !

Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2

40 minutes of my life (and data usage) that I wish I could recover. Unless they have yet-to-be disclosed plans for the HTC One, Verizon may have just delivered a bullet to the head to HTC!

Someone will make a youtube video titled "Hitler disappointed at Verizon 2013 CTIA announcement".
