Very unreliable Fingerprint Sensor.

So I have had my op3 since launch and I LOVE IT. I have only had one or two tiny issues which is normal for tech. Amazing device. My only query is that I know the fps is amazing but for some reason I have about a 50/50 failure rate. I have cleaned it, removed/replaced fp many times with little to no success.

I have attempted the whole restart etc. Some days it is better than others. I have begun to wonder if it's my fingertips themselves. I have had issues with fingerprints for driving licence in my old home country not being clear enough and having to redo them over and over.

So short of a quick fix, has anyone had the same issue?
- I have cleaned
- I have replaced fingerprints
- I have taken case off in case it was interfering and that helped a little
- I have gone as far as roughing up my skin a little to see if that helps.

Factory fault maybe?

It sounds to me like a faulty sensor. The only times I've had any issues so far has been when I've tried unlocking from a weird angle. Even then, it's been from me not getting enough of my finger on the sensor before it tries to read it. So danged quick!! But there's no way you should be seeing that kind of failure rate. I'd do an RMA for warranty repair.

Definitely a possibility it's defective in some way but I wouldn't start there, nor does it sound like it.

I have also relearned my fingerprints once due to high failure rate. I took my sweet time the second around, rolling my finger, swiping slightly, and many different angles. The result was significantly better. As a note, I also only have my thumbs entered twice.

There's a lot of variables here too, as you already mentioned the condition of your skin can be a factor. Have you tried using multiple fingers? Have you tried entering the same finger twice to possibly allow for better data on one finger? There's quite a few things you can try, short of returning as a defect.

I would imagine that if there was a defect, you would have bigger issues and it'd be more noticeable. I'd just hate to see you have it repaired or replaced and have the same issue.

Yeah I'm Definitely not going to just send it back. Some days it's much better than others. And honestly someone made me think it could simply be that it's TOO quick. It doesn't get it first time and then it seems to go into a 'NOPE' loop and fail until I need to put the pin. In the early morning skin is definitely different to once you have start sweating etc and it seems the cleaner and drier my hands are, the more likely to fail it is. And obviously if too wet

I was also gonna say as to how quickly it tries to read the print, could definitely be attributing to the failure rate. But you just have to also take into consideration the other variables such as your skin and wetness/dryness like you said.

I would say if you haven't already, try relearning the finger you think has the best chance of being read, and learn that finger twice, then see what happens. And use every possible angle and position you possibly can.

I relearned a finger and it's not failed yet. Hmmm. Strange way of working around but it's definitely made a difference. Cheers dude. I shall do this again after installing the community build later.

Yeah definitely! Give it some time too. Use it normally, not just in a testing type mode. Lol see how it goes and let us know!

When you set it up, how are you pressing it?

It's important to scan different parts of your finger and not just lift and tap with the same part.

Thanks but I have done all the obvious things. Doing the second scan of the same finger has made a huge difference.
