From an ecological standpoint, I get that they are trying to not add on to the amount of cables and stuff we have already likely accumulated. But from a phone standpoint, I wonder if they're only doing this because they're seeing that Apple is already doing this/and getting away with it. I suppose only time will tell.

I think it's more about economics than it is ecological. I don't know what their net cost is of a charger, but even it's just a few bucks they save millions in costs for parts, packaging and shipping.

Oh, wow. I totally forgot about the cost to manufacture chargers. It definitely makes sense when you look at it that way, as well.

I still like the idea of perhaps choosing between boxes that have chargers VS not. For some, perhaps they are switching manufacturers and don't have an iOS charger or Samsung charger, etc. But then it would cost to make those chargers and what if there isn't a demand for boxes with chargers? Difficult to navigate, for sure.

I wish Samsung could figure out a way to allow owners to purchase a fast charger for 50% off by entering their serial number. That would help Samsung owners who need a charger to get one cheaper, keep people from stocking up on cheap chargers and reselling them, as well as allowing Samsung to sell new phones with no chargers and less blowback from irritated consumers.
One problem I can see with their new strategy is that more people might buy some really cheap knockoff charger and damage their phones prematurely.

Not to mention Samsung was bashing Apple big-time over not including chargers, and just like many of you said, now Samsung's going to copy them. Makes Samsung look like the worlds biggest donkey  The way to stop blowback from irritated consumers is to show them some respect, by making money without blatantly going over the top and bending consumers over.

If you're not going to include necessary components, don't raise the phone prices as you take things away, and claim you're trying to keep costs down. That doesn't compute and customers know it. I personally will not buy a phone from a manufacturer that doesn't include a charger. I really wanted a foldable/rollable phone in the next few years..... but it looks like I won't be getting one from Sammy. Good thing there's multiple other companies coming out with cool foldable/rollable phones in the near future ;)

Wow, that is a really great idea. Entering in your serial number to get a discounted charger is a phenomenonal concept. It ticks off all the right boxes.

For me personally, I dislike using third-party chargers or chargers that did not come with my phone. I like having the appropriate charger for my phone. So I'd be one of those consumers to buy a charger from the manufacturer if this type of deal existed.

Now, I get that not everyone thinks like me, so there needs to be a demand before Samsung or any other manufacturer does anything like that. But it's still a pretty awesome concept.

You need to be on Samsung's design team or advertising/marketing division.

Thanks for the complement. 😊
Even if Samsung could package the chargers separately (which I am sure they already do), they probably only need to produce about 20% chargers for the number of units sold (total guesstimate on my part).
For us current Samsung owners, we don't really "need" another charger. So, maybe ship/sell them together for people that need a charger and maybe give a $25-30 discount for people not needing a charger. Who doesn't like to spend less on a phone. I know they have great pre-order deals. But, this would satisfy people buying the phone months down the road as well. Then, if you were one of the people that opted out of the charger originally, still allow them one discounted sale per device.

I totally agree with you! Selling units at a discount like that would be a logical, economical, and smart environmental venture. If only!

I don't think they will discount without a charger. They will use it as an excuse to keep costs down and not to raise the price. I don't think they will discount adding a charger, though they might bundle them with other accessories that you pay for with preorder credits. They did that with the Note 20.

I really don't see a need for "in box" chargers any more.

Here in the UK you can purchase the normal single and double 13A wall mains sockets with integral dual USB charging sockets for about £6. Nominal output 2.4ma.

I've changed many of the standard mains sockets in my house for these new units. So I can charge any device anywhere in my property. The charging cables are so cheap to purchase.

Big plus = no waste.

Even my reclining couch has built in USB charging sockets at either end and I've got a drawer full of chargers that are never used.

Bundling them with other accessories does make sense, especially from a business standpoint. I'll put my dreams away... LOOL.

Agree. Of course it's cost. If people still buy the phone, why not cut the cost yet charge the same if people still buy it? From a business standpoint that's more money on their end.

do I agree with it? No! Same with most new cars don't even include a spare tire but a tire sealing kit instead now.

But the Samsung fast wall chargers are not cheap. the 45w Charger is $30 to $50 depending where you buy it. Amazon is currently $30. So in return Samsung makes more money selling more of them. Especially people coming from older phones who want the 25 or 45w chargers. It also gives the chances of carrier shops to add on accessories too.

I sell phone cases and accessories at the fleamarket. I will say this though from what I see it could hurt samsung eventually. Many customers are buying LG phones likes crazy and coming from older Samsung phones. If they skimp more. LG stylo 6 still comes with a wall charger and USB cable.

A lot of folks have been going for the Stylo 6 because they want the pen.

of course we will still buy the top of the line Samsung device, but many of the masses don't think like us and want more value.

and the cable is USB C to USB C so you'll have to buy the compatible brick if you don't have one already

Yeah that's an issue. Not for me as a techie, but i can definitely see a lot of people having USB -A chargers.

Then again, how many of those people won't already have a C to A cable?

We have several chargers around here too but I ordered 2 x 25W ones with my accessory credit even though we're getting the Ultra. I wanted the pen but didn't like that the cases with pens you could only get black so I got a separate pen and 2 x 25W adapters only since our phones will have the cable.

People keep bringing up this point, again not realizing that Samsung isn't some dude typing behind a desk. There are multi divisions in this company that don't even communicate with each other.

At the time Samsung marketing was teasing Apple (because they're only interest was getting people to buy their current phone) their production headquarters had already decided to remove the charger regardless.

I'm sure this will happen again and again, just like all the 5G promises that really mean nothing at this point.
