[VIBRANT FROYO] The official update thread

Got it on my Vibrant, to say that is the finishes product is very much laughable, slow and so glitchy... I had better performance on some custom ROM by Eugene, it is sad they think this is done. I even had to go through hell to get it to install. I did like that while I was updating Google maps I got the update for the new market :). All in all, the NOVEMBER JK6 update is just about the same as this.

Sent from my Nexus S

Starting to look like the Evo and others that got Froyo way back, they had to have a few updates to work out the bugs. I imagine when the other Galaxy S phones get their Froyo updates we will be singing the same tune :(

Very frustrated. Tried 4 times. It downloads all the binary files and finished decrypting them etc... says it's updating firmware, a yellow construction looking android guy appears on my vibrant saying "do no turn off target!!!!" stays there for about two minutes and then I get an error message on kies saying "upgrade failed. pull out battery, reboot and try again. If reboot doesn't work use emergency thing". Rebooted fine each time, but I can't see to get the damn upgrade. Anyone have any suggestions? Debugging on, have it set to Kies, I'm clueless. Spent two hours trying. GRRRRRR :(

@beandon:
The screen lock is the same. It just properly says "swipe to unlock" instead of "sweep to unlock". I'm not sure if they expected us to take a broom out of the closet, or what.

Call me crazy, but when Verizon announces an OTA update for the Fascinate (which I have), I'm going to wait for the OTA.

Many people are complaining about how much of a hassle it is to use Kies Mini (and to be honest, i'm not fully aware of what it is), but really, T-mobile said they were doing OTA's, so would you expect THAT to be the CORRECT/bug free 2.2 update? Just because it was available from samsung (prior to the confirmation from samsung/tmobile), doesn't make it right or ready....right?

i was having problems doing the update with mini kies on my win 7 64 bit pc, BUT AS soon i installed the usb driver from the samsung site on my other pc which is 32bit win xp pc and installed mini kies on that it installed so easily it was scary. it installed so easy i wish i would of thought of that earlier. They should make it easier for win 7 users but its samsung were talking about. I am loving my froyo though no problems so far.

If T-Mobile does offer OTA at some point it will probably be the same exact version everyone is downloading with Kies. There is going to be bugs and everyone will have to wait for bug fix updates to roll out sometime in the next year. Basically T-Mobile and Samsung have now held up their end of the deal, they said you would get Froyo so there you go welcome to Froyo. Bug fixes and further updates, were gonna have to wait and see.

what major differences are you guys noticing? I got the download to work after a while no problems so far.

I second that and I have the Captivate. I'll either flash a ROM when I get tired of 2.1 or just keep it on 2.1. I have no real urgency for 2.2. Any so called additional "features" of 2.2 don't seem to be worth the time

Well finally I got to upgrade my girlfriend's Vibrant. What a hassle i tell you. Had so many problems using Kies Mini. Samsung really needed to do this through OTA.

I had no problem with downloading this update...It works ok...except for when you start the phone...The start up T mobile jingle cannot be shut off...even when set to silent....am gonna try to root this and install a custom rom...it's also full of bloat software...any suggestions??

Same here. I had rooted mine and installed the lag fix just a day before they announced they would be pushing froyo out, so I had to remove the lag fix and unroot it.

I tried rooting it the old way but It didn't work, i guess it's a different file for 2.2... but fine with the update, it's nice and feels Froyo like... it is a little laggy but after the lagfix im sure it's gonna be one of the best. I use adw launcher ex with a gingerbread skin for a more pure android feel.. touchwiz just ruins the experience for me... the flash works good and so does the tethering... I'm pleased so far!
