Vicious Cycle

In July 2010 I was frothing at the mouth to get the Droid X. I finally get it, and it is the greatest thing ever. Almost a year and a half goes by and I get wind of this Galaxy Nexus thing. What starts out as a general curiosity blooms into a calling around from store to store plotting where I'm going to get it and QUICK. Do I need it?? Probably not. Do any of us really NEED it? Probably not. Now yes, a lot of you will explain how your phone is "on its last leg", about how your using a phone thats 5+ years old, about how you've been sitting on and upgrade for awhile, etc.

Amidst all of this anxiety please try to remember that most of us, a year from now, will be on this exact website impatiently posting about ANOTHER phone we don't need. Am I guilty of this unnecessary behavior? I'll let the fact that I'm even posting this do the talking. Everyone just relax and be glad we don't have cancer or something lol.

PS: To add to the fire, I called a Best Buy yesterday and the guy said they would be selling it on Friday, and that I could come pick one up. I also called the VZW corporate location here in NE and the gentleman said he "did not have a release date", but was VERRYYYY inquisitive as to where I had heard such a rumor. Chill guys....we'll have it sooner than later.

However, if there's one device to break this bad habit, it's the Galaxy Nexus. Tell yourself you're gonna keep it for 18 months. It's one of the few flagship devices where you can say with at least SOME confidence, that you'll be able to keep it for 18 months, even with all the new quad-core devices set to come out early next year.

It's one of the few flagship devices where you can say with at least SOME confidence, that you'll be able to keep it for 18 months, even with all the new quad-core devices set to come out early next year.

Quad core is the reason why you can't say you're gonna keep it for 18 months. The phone is already a year old.

Aside from the whole ICS, new features/hardware, etc. of the phone itself, I myself have yet to make the switch to 4G as I have the original Droid X. I'm anxious to see if there is a huge difference in speed or not.

It's astronomical. I pretty much get 15-20 down in anywhere with decent coverage. You will never be able to go back...just a fair warning.

You mean to tell me, you have not played w/ an LTE device in a store, yet? Wow, you might faint when you do, it's really impressive if you live in a strong coverage area.

I have not played with another phone since I bought my Droid X last year, aside from helping my gf with her DINC2 and asking SIRI dirty questions. If 4G really IS that much better than 3G, then my excitement level is going to increase pretty significantly.

Why don't you just eat all pills with necessary nutrient for living? Why do you want to have different food, and sometimes unnecessarily more than you need to?

One thing to be sure though, you probably just don't have the perspective of a gadget lover.

I wouldn't be on a forum posting about a phone that hasn't come out yet if i didn't have at least a little bit of love for gadgets.

Eating pills all day would wreak havoc on your liver and renal system. We WANT to eat different foods because we have different tastebuds specific for each type of flavor and also develop preferences for different types of food, but we don't NEED different types of food, just ones essential for living. And I eat more than necessary because its the american way baby. I hope you weren't actually serious about those questions by the way, this isn't the Jetsons.

You're missing my point, and that point is we want the phone which is fine, I'm not bashing anyone for that because I want it badly too. But we don't NEED the phone and there is no argument you can make for that case. Necessities and luxuries....go ahead and google them if you are confused.

I haven't looked anything up regarding how the 4G coverage is in my area. I live in Las Vegas but am in the Omaha, NE area for the next few months finishing up g-school. My assumption would be that Vegas has a better 4G area than Omaha being as its bigger and all but I need to look into it a little more.

Just FYI - different tastebuds for each type of flavor is scientifically proven wrong.
Also, necessities and luxuries don't mean the same thing to different people.

Your OP is very condescending to people who feel a new phone is more necessary than you do, and that's all I am saying. It is not a vicious cycle to many, because there are many people happen to have a broken phone at this moment, and wants to have another phone he/she doesn't need to replace until it breaks.

Everyone here is freaking out over a release date of a specific phone. If they needed a phone, or rather if it was a high necessity for them they would choose one of the many reliable phones out at this moment and would not have to wait. They have the luxury of be able to wait by using their current beater but choose to complain about a lack of a release date of a specific phone. The luxury here for people is is specificity, or the ability TO wait for a phone, but yet they choose to complain about it. Beggers can't be choosers, especially when it comes to something as expensive as a phone.

And its funny you bring up "scientifically proven wrong". Can you show me that scientific research please?? I'm currently completing PA school and would love to go in and tell my instructor that he and the book are wrong.
