I have a galaxy s5 Verizon edition. Is there a way to make video calls that emulates Apple's FaceTime. Both parties now have to download a special application to accomplish this. Is there a way of having a video call with the just the operating system and not a third party app? Thanks

You could try Hangouts signing with your Google account. Popular third party apps apps could be Viber or Skype.

I guess what I'm trying to do is to have a video call with someone with any smartphone without having either of us use a 3rd party app. I think that it would use the Android or Apple operating system. There is probably no way to do this, but I thought I'd ask you experts anyway. Thanks.

But you need an app to do that. Apple devices use Face Time, an iOS app restricted to iOS devices. Android offer you more possibilities. With Hangouts you just need to open it, sign with your Google account and that's it, with the extra that you can use it on iOS devices as well!

With other apps you need to create your own account (Skype) or use your phone number (Viber).

OK, I understand. What I was trying to do was to a video call with friends that are not interested in Hangouts, or any other apps. I know that it's a lost cause, but thanks for your help.

If you and your friends are on the same network (Verizon) and a capable phones...you guys could try to turn on Advanced Calling...you'll need to activate it on phone and through Verizon...its a free service...and you don't need to download any extra app...

I noticed that. I have activated Advance Calling. Now I need to find a Verizon user and test it. Thanks for your help and advice.
