I've had my Note 2 now for a couple of months and I'm now noticing that when I plug my phone into my computer, running Windows 7, that I get the generic icon instead of a thumbnail for all of my photos.

Is there a way to fix this so I can the thumbnail instead of the icon?

No. It has to do with the protocol that samsung uses. I think it is mtp mode and what you are used to is mass storage mode. As far as I know you cant change the mode.

I don't have my USB with me at the moment, so I can't confirm that the photos will show up with thumbnails, but you can try the following:

Settings >> Developer options >> USB debugging

Next, when you plug in your Note 2 to your PC you'll see the notification icon in your Note 2 that will allow you to switch modes.

Again, I can't confirm in the other mode will show the thumbnails, but it's something to try.

Personally, I use AirDroid to transfer all my files. AirDroid has thumbnails for photos, videos, etc.
