Should I load a virus protection/scan onto the Nexus 10?
I am thinking about using Avast free mobile. But I don't see many of my friends who have an android based unit using virus protection.

Thoughts appreciated.

I use avast on every device I own. I have never had any issues ever. I even loaded it on all of my wife's android and windows machines. I will swear by it.

Don't need stop believing every thing you read. DL lookout that's all you need. FYI in settings u already have a built in app checker for apps outside the market.

And they build apps like that for folks like you. Most of security based software are just feeding on your window fears and have no clue what or how android works.

I use Lookout, but I don't know if it's any better than Avast. Is there any study or comparison article?

There was a study awhile go that the windows based virus protection gave out more false positives then lookout did. I don't feel like digging for it. It seems like every time some one new buys a android device this is one of there five post. Just search there are alot of threads on this if folks would just search better.
