Visual Voicemail MAY be a reality for us soon!

i really jumped the gun with this,
i loaded this vvm apk on my phone and while i did get it to provision, none of my voice mails would come through.

only things that would work were voice mail messages i would record and send to myself.

so who ever posted here about the nexus not being in the system as being a phone thats allowed to vvm, they were right.

its not app related, its system related.
something the system does.

i personally think it would be a advertising point for sprint with the newest nexus that comes out to get it, by advertising how our nexus gets vvm while other carriers dont with the nexus or similar.

while vvm started as a apple thing and now everyone has it, it is a missed feature for me and since hearing the issues with GV, im not even messing with it.

so mark this thread as dead, because ive done everything to get vvm to work and it just never will.
i read it works in CM7 but find that hard to believe since its carrier related.

Yeah, I posted this over at XDA, but I was pretty sure I heard that directly from Sprint. Bummer, though you can set Google Voice to do the same...

I don't believe the issue is only the lack of a GB app.

If I remember correctly, the Nexus series has the voicemail routed through a different server than the typical Sprint VM server, which is required for Sprint's visual voicemail to work. I hope I'm wrong for your sake, but I have a pretty good recollection of Sprint saying visual VM would not be on the Nexus.

I'd be nice if someone would show how to setup Google VVM. I get texts, emails and broken english translation for each vm I get...the options menu in the app looks super sparse...I don't see how to shut the extra notifications off...

Like other people have said, you don't have to do the Sprint integration. When you install and open the GV app, it ask if you want to do the integration and all you have to do is press skip.

Then you can always try the app called Youmail. It's good, but GV is far superior. Yeah, GV translations may suck for some people (for me, they're perfect), but Youmail makes you pay for those same translations.

I think I had the same problem before, the stock messaging app and GV are both notifying you of texts? Just turn off notifications for the stock messaging app.

Even if you get a system dump from another phone, samsung, htc,lg that has sprint's VVM it still will not work for us. It's not as easy as most think like just install the apk and it will work cause it doesn't work that way. There has to be file in data/data and usually you would of needed to pulled them files from your own phone that had VVM installed and working. Im sure plenty of people will try to get it going and if somehow it does work then gre3at but gvoice is just as good if not better then sprint vvm. To me it's way better i can download the voicemail so if you need to save it you always have it,it transcribes the voicemail,it might not do a perfect job but neither does sprint's vvm.

I found that a lot of issues can be solved by clearing out data on google voice, then go to google voice on your pc and remove your phone. After that start the process over open gvoice app on phone and set it up to how you would like it. I use gvoice to handle my voicemails,I did't combine my numbers that way I text certain people with my gvoice number then I can choose to sign out or disable it so them people can't bother me. Another plus is i give people my gvoice number so when i don't have a signal or am flashing roms I get their text as soon as i sign in. I know i've missed several text to my normal sprint number so now i don't,if you don't reach me on one text the other.

How do you do part in bold? I do not see this option.

When your inside google voice on your pc the little gear in the top right corner click that should have a pop up says"voice settings" click that. Then you have option to get text, etc, etc, but you can delete from there too.

This also work if you combined your numbers and didn't want to do that delete and then when you open gvoice app on phone choose "skip"

^There is no text option, only the ability to stop email notification.

I've already deleted the app from the phone, reinstalled it....I even 'deactivated' the phone from the PC.

The problem is, these options do not exist. I see no checkboxes anywhere to disable text messages or properly setup google voice.

Why is this so complicated?

Before anyone responds 'its not', THINK about your response. Simply saying:

1.) click here
2.) ???
3.) Profit

Missing a step!

Please provide a clear way to accomplish VVM on the Nexus S after it's already been setup with texts being sent for every message....or a link.

Thanks :)

I've love the VVM I get from GV, but I hate it taking over my SMS, it seems from reading this that some have found a way to just use the VVM and leave the rest off. I've disabled it from my phone via my computer and then re-installed it and never saw the options in accept or not accept any services of what I want and don't want to allow it to do.

So as others have said, if some one could actually explain how to do this and not just say it can be done that would be great.

The other problem I had with it was on incoming calls. When I'd receive one and go to answer it I'd get some stupid message telling me to hit 1 to answer, but the majority of the time the call would end before I could hit 1. I could never find an option to disable it. Is there some list of instructions, FAQ's or something for this that I'm missing?

Hmm very weird. When I've gone into Google Voice in Chrome on my computer and went into the settings it never showed me any options to change. I just did it for the first time in Firefox and everything that wasn't showing up before is not showing up. For some reason in Chrome it all stays behind my inbox, therefore I wasn't aware of all of these options I can change and mess with... Would think with Google Chrome it would be working fine.

All the settings are accessible and work fine for me in Chrome.
