I see a couple people saying this phone doesn't have visual voice mail built in?
I am used to visual voicemail on iphone 5 that is just there and part of the OS. Android phones don't do visual VM without going thru the AT&T app?
What is the process to check voicemail if its not part of the OS.

sorry, when you are used to things just being part of the OS, its confusing how they work on a different platform.

I am trying to check out android before switching from iphone right now.

I'm in the same boat. After losing my jailbreak I decided to test out AT&T's network and an Android phone. It drives me nuts that Android doesn't have VVM baked into the OS. AT&T has a VVM app, but I haven't heard good things about it even though it gets 4 stars in the Play store. YouMail and Visual Voicemail Plus are the next two top hits in a Play store search. HulloMail SmartVoicemail gets 4 1/2 stars, but it's an 8.99 app. There's a free version that also gets 4 stars. I haven't gotten into checking them out yet.

I didn't like at&t's visual voicemail app because it tries to integrate your call log and text messaging log too. So when some one would text me I would get two notifications, same whenever I had a missed call. Youmail is pretty good. I just downloaded Google voice and will be using that. First impressions are pretty good, I like it.

I am an iPhone convert as well. Really excited that I will be receiving my Dev edition ONE today. So to use Google voice you will have to setup VoiceMail forwarding in AT&T right?

Since you're getting the dev version, you may be able to let the app set everything for you automatically. I had to dial a number given on the Google voice website under "activate voicemail" , so if it won't work automatically just go the website.

Also, the ATT app will not work over WIFI. So if you turn off your cell data, you won't get messages until you turn it back on.

AT&T has 2 different apps. One is the messages app which I hate because it combines texts and everything. The other is just visual voicemail which works great.

Use Google Voice, in my opinion GV is the best visual voicemail app/service.
