Visual voicemail

With my last 3 Notes 3/4/7 when using visual voicemail when placing the phone to my ear it doesn't blank the screen like it does in regular calls and it usually stops playing the VM because a button is pressed. Has anyone figured out a workaround for this?

I used the vvm app on the Verizon one and it blacks out the screen. Which carrier are you on?

I'm on AT&T, should have included that.
