Voice cutting out on other end of call

Im on my second Verizon Moto X, both with the exact same problem. But just when I call my GF. (seems to be my phone, not hers, began the first call on Moto X)

You'll have to wait till Verizon released the OTA update. I'm on AT&T and have experienced no problems with voice cutting out since installing the update. Sounds like Verizon is the only carrier that hasn't released it yet.

I AM from Brasil. Bought my motox this week and also have this annoying problem. People are unable to hear me on normal calls... My company is Oi and signal bar is always full... Just to report...hope they release the update soon here

I got the first (second!) Moto X from my local Sprint store on September 12th. The first unit they activated bricked in my hand after 3 swipes. That made me nervous but I was tired of my Evo Shift and this was the first phone in a while that I was actually interested in.

I've LOVED my Moto X! Until the past week or two. My voice began cutting out, just a little at first and I figured it was nothing. Fast forward to the last three days and it's nearly impossible to have a conversation. I downloaded the OTA update just a bit ago, my guess is that the OTA caused the problem with my unit. I've been to two Sprint stores and they were both clueless as to this problem.

So to answer the question of the Sprint update; no, it has not solved this problem.

Also, while I keep hearing how Motorola makes the best antennas available in a smart phone my Moto X always has a weak signal compared to my wife's iPhone and my old Evo Shift. The weak signal indicated hasn't translated into any problems but it is a curiosity.

I'm super bummed out and rather pissed at Sprint for not knowing anything about this / seeming to not give a crap about my issue.

That's weird. I have Sprint and had significant voice issues but as soon as I got the update it was fine although I think I experienced other issues after the update. Do you have the insurance? If so, call up Sprint and try explain to them they'll be able to hear the issue they'll mark up your notes and you can exchange the unit again in the store. I feel for you man cuz i feel the same way about phones out there as well, i don't like any of them. As for being pissed that Sprint doesn't know/care, If you don't have insurance and you're passed the 30 days it's my understanding Motorola is now responsible (especially since it was Motorola's action that turned your phone into a disaster).

Same curiosity here about the weak signal.

Good luck.

paisely99, thanks for the reply!

I have insurance on the unit and will take your advice to call Sprint. At my second store visit they couldn't replicate the issue (frustrating!) in the store. I have been so frustrated with this issue your thoughtful approach is most appreciated!

I mostly call from home and always mute the television so my problem happens with no background noise. I have two theories:

1) The noise reduction system is cutting out when there is no background noise, nothing to cancel. This would explain why it can't be replicated in the noisy store conditions.

2) My early production unit's NC microphones have a different sensitivity/calibration than the later units, causing the OTA update to wreck my calls.

Who knows. At any rate I'll continue to update the thread as I navigate this issue.

youre problem is with sprint. the lack of customer service and the fact they are "upgrading" their network for such a long time and almost every call i have made got dropped, made me move to verizon, and let me tell you, what a difference in the L.A area from sprint.

Started a new job on Monday and haven't had the voice drops since Sunday. Also haven't made any calls from my living room couch on the main floor of the house.

Call quality and signal strength are great from my basement, reception at 5-6 bars. Upstairs in my living room I get 1-3 bars. Completely bizarre.

Still love my Moto X.

:D

Final update: haven't had the "voice drop" issue since original post. Am chalking it up to network problems on Sprint's end.

Reception in my office is poor and my signal strength indicator still shows stronger in my basement than the main floor at home. Weird.

The Moto X is brilliant in the car though and I'm still very pleased with my choice. Great battery life, bright screen and super responsive; it's a pleasure to use.

Thanks again for a great forum!

Picked up a new Moto-X yesterday and immediately noticed how choppy the connection was when using the phone for the first call using the blue tooth in my car. Thought perhaps it was a bad hand shake between the car and phone since I had just paired it. Anyway, I updated the phone late yesterday and now things seem to be alright. Have not made many phone calls however. Have others found better voice communication since the software update?

A lot of people have reporting that the update has fixed the voice communication.

the new update has fixed the issue on my phone and have yet to receive any complaints. phone is now flawless, minus assist not working.

I had the X but I could not use it to talk to my kids or anyone else due to the cut out. I could hear them fine but I kept cutting out , thought it was network until I found this thread

Sometimes when I am talking to someone, my voice is echoing back to me in my ear.... Any ideas why it is doing the That? The other person isn't on speaker or blue tooth either.

I'm reviving this older thread because I'm on my 2nd Moto X and having this issue STILL. I made a final call on my 2nd Moto this morning and the person kept saying, "I'm sorry...what? I can't hear you". I was in a quiet area, full bars (supposedly), and I couldn't understand what the issue is. Then I switched to my old Photon and no problem. Motorola wants me to try a THIRD Moto X but I'm very hesitant. I mean, what is the point of a phone if you can't make calls? I know many love their Moto X, but this thread is also a valid "other side" of this phone.

Now I'm wondering if I should get a Nexus 5...or just nothing at all. :(

have u updated the phone yet??

the update before kitkat fixed this issue. i had the same exact problem until i updated then all the problems went away....

I'm now on my 3rd brand new Moto X, I updated ALL three to KitKat, and the voice cutting out persists. Either I can't hear the other side, or they can't hear me (most of the time). Can't blame Sprint for this one, as I still have an active Photon (2.5 yrs old phone) and it works GREAT in the same exact location, no issues with phone calls.

I even did more research online and found the option to turn off Voice Privacy (Phone > Settings > Uncheck Voice Privacy) and it didn't help. I don't know what else is left to do, but I'm reading around the web on other Moto X forums and this is not only limited to Sprint, as users on all carriers are experiencing this.

I wrote Matt on Google+ with this issue and haven't heard back. I did see him discussing the issue with some users on the Moto X forum and he was saying maybe it's the screen protector or the phone case - neither of which I have on my phone! - but that's not a good enough answer, IMO. I mean, are we supposed to carry this phone around naked/unprotected, so we can make phone calls? That thread was back in September and since we've already had the OTA and it still hasn't resolved the issue of audio quality on this phone...I don't know anymore.
