Voice mail Icon

I'm betting it's only removable if you root the device. Most Verizon bloatware can only be disabled.

The Visual Voicemail app cannot be disabled since the 4.4.4 update last July.

Does anybody other than Sandman333 have this problem? I just don't think that this is a widespread bug on the Maxx at all. Maybe I'm wrong? I do not have that problem, though I have been using Google Voice for voicemail on my phone since two Android phones agao. Maybe you should try that? Signing up for a number is free, and now voicemails come in through the Hangouts app, if you wish.

Instructions to set it up: [GUIDE] Google Voice on your Verizon GS3 | Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III | XDA Forums (again, since these instructions were posted, Google has optional integration of Google Voice into the Hangouts app.) It used to be easier to set up on Verizon phones until they went LTE; now you have to do those three dials.

There was a lot of talk of others having this issue when the Visual Voice mail trial was forced on everyone. I never saw a solution back then either

I apologize if my previous posts were taken the wrong way. I was trying help but maybe didn't understand the depth of the problem since I am not experiencing it. I thought the crux of your problem was with the visual VM and I was trying to let you know that you can go back to the old standard non-visual VM if you wanted to from your account settings which would remove visual VM from your account. I realize that the actual app cannot be disabled or removed. So I guess my question Sandman, is when you check your voicemail on your phone does it use the old system or does it use the visual VM? If it's using the visual VM I would try going into your account settings and removing that feature and fall back to the regular old voicemail and restart your phone to see if that helps.

I don't use VVM. I use the old method of voice mail that requires a pin number.

I just got the VVM set up nag for the trial yet again. I've already gone through the trial three times. I don't want this junk, Verizon!

It's been a while since I used a Verizon phone, so this might not help--but are you able to go to Settings>Apps>All, select Visual Voicemail, and Force Stop/Clear Cache/Clear Data? Then leave it completely alone. I recall that with the old Backup Assistant Plus, as soon as I opened it, it started causing all sorts of issues, even though I never set it up. But if I Force Stopped it, and cleared all cache and data, then left it totally alone, it would stay closed. (There was no Disable option for it.)

If you go to setting > apps > all > phone. Clear data it goes away. No it does not clear contacts. Just takes voicemail notification off notification bar.

This worked for my wife's phone.

That's the thing. After you clear the phone data the icon is gone just until you reboot the phone.

Same here, meaning it's not a permanent solution.

I was able to clear it once a week or so ago, but now, seems to be stuck. Guess it's time to reboot the phone. Been a while.
