I had the same problem - Camera app and Gallery crashing, starting when the phone was about 4 months old. Tried clearing the caches and other tips - none worked.

After a while I discovered the problem was gone when decoupling ("unmounting"?) the SD card (not even needed to remove it physically). It appeared the SD card (16 GB) had serious issues - needed to do a full format on the PC. Of course, tried to backup as much data from it as possible. After that, the problems where gone! Camera and gallery are working fine now.

Dear all - I got the same problem, my Gallery not working on S4 Mini 4.2.2 - tried several ways but I resolved by removing the SD card and deleting two pictures that for some reason were corrupted - that crashed the Gallery trying to view them - I deleted the photos, reinserted the card and opened the Gallery normally - the two photos showed as 'ghost pictures' there - I just deleted and they are working fine. It is good to know (but tells me about a bug in 4.2.2 or Android) that corrupted pictures for some reason make the entire Gallery app to crash. Hope that can useful for someone - I was about to reinstall entire Android, that saved me the day.

I'm having same problem, have gone thru everything you describe; gallery thumbnail is the pic taken, but preview is pic X. I can't find a solution, and getting a bit frustrated. Have tried everything you've tried, and nothing. All the same pic X.

Have you been able to figure anything out?

Anyone?
