How on Earth do you get voice texting to spell a name correctly the first time? My puppy's name is Koda but voice texting always spells it as coda. I don't know how to get that to correct so I don't have to keep fixing it

I would like to figure that out as well. Using the Google keyboard and Google voice typing, it spells my brother's name "Neil", and each time I have to manually correct it to be "Neal". It doesn't even show "Neal" as a suggested replacement.

I hear ya!
My gal's name is Terri, but when Google girl takes dictation for a text message, she spells it "Terry" and sometimes I don't catch it and send

I've got a LOT of those as well. My sisters-in-law's names get the same treatment. Patti and Vicki are ALWAYS spelled Patty and Vicky. I've gotten to the point that it's just easier to let those spellings go through and tell them it was Google's fault. They don't give me a lot of flack about it when I don't correct it, thank goodness.

The thing that really burns be up is that Google girl recognizes the contact by the correct name when I tell her to send a text to Terri.

You can try adding the name to your personal dictionary in language & Input settings

There is also a suggest contacts setting that can be enabled under text correction settings

I already have these names in my personal dictionary. Voice typing doesn't appear to use it, though, because they are still spelled wrong.

Make sure in setting>general management>text to speech tap the preferred engine is googleScreenshot_20221217_201051_Settings.jpg

That's for text to speech. We're talking about speech to text (voice typing). Regardless, my preferred engine is already set to Google Speech Services.

Yeah
You using Samsung keyboard? Because they moved that setting in the keyboard settings under voice

I went online and found this question has been around for some time. I found several instances on Reddit of this question being asked. Many from more recently say that it is not possible. Ironically older posts from 2017 say that they were able to fix it by creating a contact with the correct spelling but similar suggestions in later years say that doesn't work.

I found 1 Reddit article that said if you get GBoard to spell it correctly it will work when you use Assistant/Google VTT.

I found this Google answer on the Google Assistant Help boards. It is more recent, 2020, and uses the contact method with a bit more in-depth directions than just creating a contact.

Let us know if any of these work for you.

My last name is eleven letters long and I used the contact work around. Worked perfectly.

The suggestion of using the phonetic spelling field in the contact editing page did not work for me for the first names I'm trying to dictate in the body of a text.

Have you tried Samsung keyboard with google voice texting ? At least in Samsung you can tap to learn the name and see if it does better job of this .
