Voice to text punctuation commands have stopped working.

Hi, I am having the same problem, which seems to have started over the last couple of weeks. When I say the command, it spells out the word, such as "explanation point" or "comma" or "question mark" instead of giving me the character.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm assuming it is probably related to an update, which unfortunately almost always breaks something when one comes along.

Thanks!!

Hi B. Diddy, I am having the same problem as AC Question. I checked my settings and this is what I see:

Default = Samsung keyboard

I don't see any selections which pertain to punctuation commands.

Thank you!

I am having the exact same problem, and so is everyone else I know that has the same phone. It all started about a week ago. It no longer insert punctuation marks, instead it writes out the entire word. And it is happening with both Samsung text to speech, and Google text-to-speech. It's making my work take at least four times as long because I dictate my work into my phone all day long, and now I have to go back in and erase all of these words, and put in the punctuation marks. If someone can figure this out, you will be my hero forever!

Hi everyone I have a Note 5. I'm very new to this. So please be patient.
I tried doing the pause in between sentences but that didn't seem to work also has anyone else noticed that about the same time that the punctuation started that it always seems to miss the first couple of words when texting or emailing? This is driving me insane exclamation point!

. Period

I said "full stop" and "period" to see what my iPhone would do. It did that. Now I'll say "question mark" and "exclamation mark":

?!

I have a S7 edge as well as a colleague and both have experienced the same issue now for 2 weeks since software upgrade. No punctuation input. The funny thing is I think they have been left out of the dictionary as there is no option to select them when correcting as there used to be. Highly frustrating and no feedback.

As far as First World Problems go this one has to rank up pretty high on my list of most frustrating daily concerns!

Welcome.

I dictated something the other day - not on the SE I mentioned above - in which the words “comma” and “question mark” appeared, instead of the symbols. I let it go like that because 1) it’s vaguely amusing, and 2) people will understand what is meant. I recommend this as a life hack.

I have had this same issue for several weeks and now my voice texting won't even spell out the punctuation word much less actually put it in the correct symbol. And to add to the headache it picks out and repeats portions of sentences at random 6 or 8 times.
Example:
I like taking walks taking walks taking walks taking walks taking walks taking walks to the store.

Somebody please help!

I'm having exactly the same problem as everyone else. If I say the word "comma" it inserts the word "comma" and not ",". It does the same for "period" (incidentally, I'd prefer "full-stop"). It's true enough that if you say the word 'comma' fast enough, you can sometimes get it to add the symbol instead of the word, but it's really hard to consistently do that when you're trying to compose a message in your head. So Google, please fix this! Voice input is a fantastically useful feature. I'm amazed at how good it is. It correctly recognises practically every word I say. But it's rendered almost useless if you can't dictate punctuation.

Well, not from me comma but then it doesn't really worry me full stop opening bracket dictated using gboard on an LG G3 full stop closing bracket

I have had the problem for several weeks but when I dictate punctuation words, nothing is typed - not the punctuation nor the actual word such as "period". By accident, I discovered that is DOES work if I have data or wifi on, but not if they are off. The rest of voice to texting is fine with data off, just the punctuation words not working.

Yesterday I did an online chat with Samsung support and she had me delete the cache in the samsung keyboard with no effect. Also had me start up in safe mode and the problem persisted. Her final suggestion was a factory reset, which I declined - not wanting to wipe out years of stuff.

The Samsung tech said they have no record of any reports of this problem??? I linked her to this thread to which she replied that it is a 3rd party site and not a Samsung site - so it doesn't count I guess. So PLEASE EVERYONE HERE FILE A REPORT WITH SAMSUNG so they are aware: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Cell-Phones/ct-p/CellPhones
