Voice typing

How do you disable voice typing and engage the keyboard, android 4.1 system

Settings>language and input>uncheck voice typing.

Settings/Language & Input then uncheck voice typing and select which keyboard you want to use.

When I go to the screen that has voice typing, the check mark is dim and I cannot unselect it.

Strange...does voice typing always come up when you want to type, or are you looking at removing a microphone icon on the keyboard?

Do you have any other keyboards installed? Do you see Google Keyboard there?
