Voicemail notification fixed

I don't know just call me stupid. But if I see a red phone handset with a white arrow bouncing off of it in my notification bar I look to see if I have a voice mail. Come on people it's not rocket science. And to the guy who called this phone unusable go get a Jitter Bug. There are work arounds other apps and if you've got a pair call VZW and demand VVM. JEEEZE

No need to be insulting or dismissive.

The red phone handset with the white arrow is the "missed call indicator". That works great, assuming your phone was aware of the call in the first place. That little flag is only turned on when your phone actually rings and you don't answer it. The flag is not turned on if your phone did not receive the call at all (and the caller could still have left a voicemail).

If you were out of signal range, for example, you could easily miss a call and have a voicemail and not have a missed call indicator.

So the faulty voicemail indicator is a serious problem for people who depend on their phones for business. Calling to get VMM is one good workaround, switching to an alternate voicemail solution like Google Voice is another even better one.

But please don't insult everyone because the missed call indicator (which doesn't work in all circumstances) is sufficient for you. Voicemail is an important business tool, and a missed voicemail is potentially a very bad thing for a business professional.

Especially because a lot of people out there may not even be aware that their VM indicators are broken, and that they need to implement a workaround. Not everyone reads these forums.

Verizon really needs to fix this NOW, or they need figure out all their Thunderbolt users who have been moved to Gingerbread and contact them to inform them that their phones are now not functioning as promised and offer them a solution (free VMM until the fix, rollback to Froyo, whatever).

I didn't need to demand anything (though I was prepared to). I politely explained the problem. They acknowledged it, apologized for the inconvienience and gave me free vvm till its resolved. 10 mins start to finish.

The shame in all this is that you had to make yourself aware of the defect in the first place. I'd hazard a guess that the vast majority of Thunderbolt users who have gone to Gingerbread are:

1. Unaware that their phones upgraded, except that it mysteriously restarted at some point and that some of the menus look a little different.

or

2. Unaware (until they miss an important voicemail) that the upgrade broke something as core as basic voicemail functionality.

Of course, maybe Verizon did call you. But you weren't there so they left you a...
(puts on glasses)
...voicemail.
:D :D :D

Well, I just called into Verizon, and followed the prior advice. I politely explained the problem to the first tier support, who was very friendly, but had never heard of the problem before. She forwarded me to the next tier support.

He was also really nice, but said I shouldnt believe everything I read on the forums and blogs. He said he has a Thunderbolt, and was having the same problem. He said he had VVM, but it wasnt working either, so he wasnt going to put it on mine. He said my best best was a warranty claim for a replacement phone, which wouldnt have the GB update! I told him I wanted VVM added, and if it worked, I expected a crdit for it, and if it didnt, then I'd turn it off.

So, we loaded the VVM, he did a test call, and it worked. But, he said that they cant set up a recurring automatic credit, and I would need to call billing and dispute the charge when it shows up on my bill next month. Nice guy though, he said he was going to uninstall and reinstall VVM on his own phone and see if it works for him. :D

Just as an FYI, there's no need to reboot the phone to get or clear the notifications. Simply putting the phone into and then out of airplane mode is enough. That's been working for me for a while.

WTF! When is this going to be fixed?!?! I mean what if something important comes up and it is not noticed simply because the phone is not functioning as it is supposed to? If it isn?t one thing it is another with this damn phone!

fail. if I knew my cell would reboot and have all these issues I would have stayed with my BB .

I am in agreement and not every missed call leaves a message. I need the vm foe my new job. I can't miss customer messages. I shouldn't have to constabulary check. It should be working

How long did it take BAMF to figure out how to fix the VM notification? If it's simply (LOL) a matter of a few lines of code, why does it take more than a day to repair it and release it?

It's called HTC & Big Red's red tape. BAMF doesn't have to operate under the same guidelines which gives them the freedom to resolve issues quicker than the corporations.

ahhh.... the speed of innovation.

It is with GB release 2.11.605.5 which appears to be the new official GB OTA that one would expect to be released shortly per Verizon's Thunderbolt Support page:
