Voicemail notification not showing on LG K20 V

Anyone know why LG K20 V doesn't show me when someone leaves a voicemail?

Welcome to Android Central! Is your voicemail properly set up on the phone? Open the Phone app, tap Menu>Settings>Call Settings>Voicemail, and make sure it's set up correctly there.

I just had a text conversation with Verizon customer service. In order to get an icon notification of voicemail, you need to use the "free" visual voicemail app. This app is a red and white icon with a tape reel symbol. You must also have data turned on to use it. I choose not to have data on since it cost money unless you have unlimited data. So, I can't get an icon notification. She pointed out that voicemail uses a minute amount of data, but I noted that with data on other things on my phone will use data. So I don't feel it is "free". Anyway, if you have unlimited data with Verizon, I hope this helps.
