Question Voicemail

When someone calls my Galaxy S20 FE 5G and I don't answer, it should go to voicemail where they hear my greeting. Instead, they hear a prompt asking them to enter my phone number. As a result, I haven't received any voicemail messages in months. How can I fix this, and why is it happening?

Is your voicemail through your carrier? Who is your carrier?

Is your VM through a service? i.e. Google Voice, or some free or paid service that has an app? Did you have to forward your calls to this service? Have you tried clearing the call forwarding and redoing it, if so?

Have you called yourself, from a separate line of course, or asked a friend to call you so that you can hear this message yourself?

What happens if you follow the instructions? Are callers prompted to leave a message at all, the line disconnects, something else happens?

Have you gone into your VM and played with any of the settings? Most times this calling yourself from your device and navigating through different options and menus using the phone pad.

Have you tried updating your greeting?

While it doesn't seem like an optimal solution, and I totally understand not wanting to talk to people, but if your VM is through your carrier your fastest and best option would be to just call them. I mean here we are almost 24 hours later and you're only, maybe, a little closer to a solution than you were when you wrote in. They can reset your VM and/or direct you in steps to correct the issue, and they've probably seen this before.

Let us know the answers to these questions and what you find. We'll offer more advice.
