There has to be better voicemail then this right?

I just switched over from Windows phone. The voicemail used on the wp list all voice mail. I can easily scroll to hear any message quickly however on Android I have to press and hold the one button. I haven't used this type of voicemail since 2000.

What other options are out there and does marshmallow come with better voice?

It sounds like you are asking about Visual Voicemail. What carrier do you have?

I have AT&T, and I've had Visual Voicemail on BlackBerry, Windows Phone, and now Android since 2010 or 2011.

Get Google Voice and add visual voicemail, a second line - yes a second number for your phone - and a lot more for free.

If you don't need or want a Google Voice number but want to use Google Voice for voicemail you can use Google Voice Lite.

Maybe you'll also like some of the other features it provides such as transcripts, specialized voicemail messages, etc. It's about the same as the regular GV except you just don't get a GV number.

Do I have my cell number forward to Google voice, is that how that works? Then I would check my voicemail with the Google voice app, so I would then be using two different apps for my phone needs. The main phone app and Google voice app.

As you can tell I'm a little confused.

I'm with at&t

Yes.

Yes, but it works very well, just like any other visual voicemail. You get a notification, click on it and you go to voicemail. It all integrates together.

As you can tell I'm a little confused.
If you really wanna get confused, read this post I wrote a while back outlining some of the tricks Google Voice is capable of. Kinda hard to wrap your head around, but it demonstrates some of the stuff Google Voice can do. Once you get it working {which actually isn't hard at all to do) it works so cool and slick you wonder how you ever got along without it. This was a reply in a thread about international calling, which is beside the point. Just start at the 2nd paragraph, at 'Anyway':

I started setting up gv. I have voicemail working for my mobile phone. I need to talk my wife into making my greetings message.

I have my home phone forward to my mobile phone, I have been doing this for years. I have been debating on getting rid of my land line but, instead could i move my home phone to gv instead?

I have to try gv out first but, I'm liking things so far. Thank you!

Many years ago, I cut the landline and had my landline number transferred to my phone. You definitely should be able to port your landline number to GV. That way, you don't lose a number you've had for a while, maybe a long time. And your numbers stay the same, no giving out a new number. You could use the landline number, now GV number, as your 'public' number and keep your cell number private. However you want to do it.

Don't forget, if you have your contacts assigned to groups you can record specialized greetings for each group. Unfortunately, GV will not do greetings per contact, only groups and anonymous callers.

I admit I'm a little surprised that post I linked didn't put you off, but seems instead to have inspired you to explore GV. That post is confusing, but I haven't thought of a better way to explain it. Now that you're going for it, please, feel free to ask any questions and I'll try to answer as best and as quickly as I can.

Honestly, I read your post a few times. I probably will be reading it from time to time.

I don't really use my land line. My customers use that number to get a hold of me so I have been putting off dropping that line but, now with gv I think I can drop that line and still keep my number.

Thank you for your help!

Ha! Heckuva reference source!

Then you end up using GV as your business number and cell number for private use, same as we do. Should work out well for you. Your customers will be able to reach you at the same number as always, but you can save the cost of the landline and you gain all the features of GV. Plus, your business number becomes mobile.

Thank you for your help!
No problem. Let me know if i can help. I feel kinda responsible for getting you into this.

Don't worry I won't hold you responsible if things go south. With tech it doesn't take much to persuade me.

What is involved in porting my number over to gv? Do I need to notify my cable company?

Wow that is a very helpful article! Thank you so much!

Funny how things change. Last week I was all windows. Now I'm going all in with Google. From android to cloud print and now Google voice. What's next.
