Volume buttons control media volume by default, instead of ringer volume

I think this started with the latest security patch. Before, when I would use the volume buttons on the home screen, it would change the ringtone volume as default, the other volumes being accessed via dropdown menu.

Now, on the home screen, when I press the volume buttons, it's the media volume that's being changed by default instead. If I want to change the ringer volume, I have to use the dropdown menu.

Is there any way to change it back? :'(

I do play Words with Friends 2. Let me try your suggestion.

Update: That seems to be the cause. I don't want to uninstall it because I play a lot with my friends. Hopefully they'll change it with an update.

Hey, I just recently started having this problem, and I saw on another forum that you can go into the settings with words with friends and disable notification sounds. Mine were already disabled, but I enabled them then disabled them and that fixed the problem. I don't know if it will work for long, but it is better than delivering for force stopping the app all the time.

I've never touched Words with Friends, but this occasionally happens to me to. There is a bug that causes apps (I suspect it's usually one of my games, but not any specific one) to not release media volume control. Sometimes swiping apps away fixes it, and sometimes it busy resolves itself.
