My volume buttons on the side of my DNA used to change the ringer volume. However, it now changes the media volume and I need it to change the ringer volume. I have gone to settings and sound profile to change the ringer and I have the widget but I need the volume control buttons to work so I can turn it down in my pocket without having to take out the phone and mess with it.
Thank you.

Welcome to the forums!

I would guess that perhaps you had a recent update to your phone? From what I understand, the functionality of what volume buttons do is in the ROM itself.

Hi Hannah,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I need to start from the top to try to evaluate the problem,

Is your phone stock, or is it rooted and tampered with in any way?

Secondly, when you are changing the volume, are you in an app? When in an app, the volume key will automatically adjust to media volume. Otherwise, it will be the phone volume.

Also, are you using a launcher or any other homescreen replacement? If so, it could be the culprit by confusing the phone into thinking that you are in app.

This is my first legitimate phone. It was working fine two days ago. I noticed the problem last night but thought it was because I had been on youtube for a while. In other words, I don't understand most of your questions. When I'm on my home screen and try to adjust the volume it says media; when I anywhere doing anything it now always says media. That's really all I can tell you. Sorry and thank you.

Heather,

Have you tried restarting the device to give it a 'fresh start' ? You can do this by holding down the power button until the haptic feedback, and selecting restart. This will just turn your phone off, and back on.

I am bowing out....Someone with more experience than me with a DNA is here helping.

Thanks for letting me know :-)

Do the hard reset, ie, hold down power and down volume until it turns off and restarts. That should fix it. And welcome to the forums, android in general and hTc droid DNA forums.

Thank you. I had tried to restart but I guess it was being stubborn. Sorry for sounding like an ignorant child.

You do not sound like an ignorant child. Did you get it to restart?

I'm guessing you have fast booting enabled (enabled by default). It's more-or-less a sleep mode rather than a restart (I'd recommend turning it off under Battery in settings as IMO it defeats the function of rebooting).

:thumbup:I forgot about fastboot. I've had it turned off since the get go lol.
