Question, the volume control on every headphone I have tried does not work with the note 3... am I doing something wrong.

Kef M200 ($199.99 headphoneS)
Iphone 5

The click for play/pause works, but the volume buttons fail to work. What am I doing wrong?

you arent doing anything wrong...
Not all Headphone jacks are created equal.
It obviously wont work on your note 3
I have heard that Beats have better luck at working since they actually build things for Android.
(or the stock samsung headphones will work for sure)

I know this doesn't really help you, but I'm using the headphones that came with my galaxy S3 and the volume control works fine...

As these guys pointed out, not all headphones are compatible with all smartphones. (regardless of what the packaging may say) Try another pair of headphones and/or the stock earbuds in order to determine it's actually a headphone issue, and not a phone/hardware issue.
Good luck!

No iPhone headset will work with an Android device due to the fact that Apple owns the patent for the electrical signals that the headsets send. (I believe that are 0 and 20 ohms, but I'm not sure) The android framework has a small, but annoying, line of code that instructs it to ignore all signals on this voltage. Blame apple for that one.
