#$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notification

Is there anything that works to lock down the volume? https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sfsmart.volume.free isn't working for me, don't want to go through the hassle of setting up my account for pay for apps if the pay apps won't work, either. I keep hitting the #$%^ button and changing the volume--the ring volume, the volume at which music is playing, etc. I just want it to refuse to change the volume unless it's been manually unlocked first.

Also wondering if there's any way to disable the vibrate on using the keyboard. System sounds are turned down to 0 and vibrate is turned off everywhere I can find, but maybe there's something I missed.

Hey, is there anywhere I can stash my tiny mp3's that will make the Sensation recognize them enough to use as notification tones? I can convert the audio type if that would help.

Thanks!

What, under "Feedback"? That's as far down as *my* screen goes. Those are all turned off, but the keyboard still vibrates. So do all kinds of other things, but it's the keyboard that bothers me the most.

free app ringdroid, cut and edit and use mp3's as any notification

Shucks. I was going to say, "That's terrific!" but this thing is REALLY broken. Two force closes before I have even managed to select any sound; I have no idea how it's supposed to work.

Okay, I managed to select one of my short tones. Chose "Set As." I tried to set it as the notification tone and it insisted on trying to play the (unchanged) ringtone several times.

So hey. Anything *else* that will let me use mp3's as ringtones? I have a large collection, they don't need editing, they just need to be selected.

Tap "Menu", then "Ringtones", Then on top "New ringtone". It should open a new window and you select your mp3. They don't need to be in a specific folder.

Pardon me, the second time I mis-spoke. I'm looking to use my own mp3's as notification tones. Ringtones I've got covered.

Thanks.

Anybody know how to effectively lock the volume? Anyone? Please?

You can't lock down the volume. If the phone is unlocked, the volume button will still actuate. (The only time it will work when locked is if music is playing)

As for the notifications; create a new folder on your SD card called Notifications. The OS will automatically read it and allow you to choose them.

The Keyboard thing can be found in the keyboard settings; tap on the options button on the keyboard. (I think it looks like a settings gear) Under the options you should be able to find the option to disable the haptics.

Hey, that's great! Since it didn't auto-read my files I thought I needed to use an app to do it. Wonderful, so much easier than I was expecting.

I can't find an options button on any keyboard. How are you accessing the keyboard with an options button?

Thanks!

How do other people deal with bumping their volume button if the phone is in a pocket, or when you pick it up, etc? I yanked out the side volume button on my last phone because it kept silencing itself in my pocket. It would be a bit more difficult to do that with the Sensation. I'd love to completely disable it, though.

Mostly, I find it incredibly irritating that it beeps a couple of times every time I pick it up, then I have to fix the volume. Perhaps I'm more likely to hit the side volume button than most people, due to a neurological clumsiness thing, but still, surely someone else has this problem and knows how to make it stop?

Re: #$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notifica

Just access it from general settings.

Language & keyboard > touch input > text input > uncheck Vibrate when typing.

I use "Volume Locker." It's on the Android Marketplace. If you happen to touch your volume rocker buttons VL asks you to confirm that you want to change volume levels before allowing it.

Re: #$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notifica

Just wanted to thank you folks again for your help. Keyboard vibrate disabled and notifications personalized to my liking :) I'd still love a way to disable that volume rocker button completely, but hey.

Re: #$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notifica

I use the glossy black TPU case on mine. The rocker takes work to move with this case. Normally this would be a mark against the case, but in this instance, it is a blessing. :D I had the same issue - was always accidentally changing the volume.

Great case btw.

Re: #$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notifica

Oh, hey, that's good to know. I ordered the glossy smoke one; I hope it works similarly. (Ordered it when I got my phone, but they sent the wrong thing; just waiting on the right one now.)

Re: #$%^ volume rocker button, also keyboard vibrate and notifica

If anyone happens upon this thread because they were also looking to disable their volume rocker button, I've found a few helpful things.

1) My husband's rocker button just plain fell out when he had the back of the phone off. Hey, look at that: it snaps in and out. He put it back in place without a problem. But hey, it comes off.

2) Root the phone and use "ButtonRemapper" to change what the voume button does. I found that I was happy just removing the "WAKE_DROPPED" from the file. Now it no longer beeps and changes the volume while it's sleeping.
[App] ButtonRemapper - Beta v0.2.4 (New Galaxy S version added) - xda-developers

3) This also requires root. There's a set of files in /system/ that correspond to the beep the phone makes when you change the volume. In /system/media/audio/ui there are files Volume-1.mp3 to Volume-7.mp3. I would *guess* that if you replace those mp3's, the volume rocker button will now make...whatever sound you want it to make, including, say, a silent mp3. I haven't messed with these, but they exist.

And now you know what I know :)
