Volume turning itself down and unable to turn off phone sometimes?

I shut down my phone for a couple hours and turned it back on. Then I watched YouTube and listened to music for another couple hours. Suddenly, the volume just started turning itself all the way down randomly? It's never done this before and it's a brand new phone (HTC One M9). I'd like to know how to fix this ASAP because I use my phone for music and videos a lot. I am not accidentally hitting the volume buttons because for music, I often do not hold my phone at all.

Another problem is that I sometimes cant turn off my phone using the power button. The only way it turns off is the auto screen shut down. I can turn it on afterwards, but again, not off.

Sounds like you have an odd bug in the software.
I say software because the physical button used for the power is the same if your using it to turn the device on or off. If it works fine to turn it ON, but giving you issues to turn it OFF, then it sort of rules out hardware.
You may want to consider resetting your device and going from there.

Could be worse. My DNA would randomly turn the volume all the way up... almost blew my ear drums out a few times when I had headphones on.
