Let me start off by saying I have these two direct questions to you because I respect your knowledge of this phone, it is much appreciated.

Ok, so on the questions:

1 - I saw a in a post somewhere that you were finally vodoo ing your phone. What do you think? is it worth it? I have flash a thousand roms, kernels, radios, etc... but never vodoo it. I have seen a few knowledable people in this website saying the benefits are not worth it. What is your opinion?

2 - Now that froyo ed01 is out, I am on sc 2.9.1, one of Jt undervolted kernels, the ec01 radio and I am pretty happy to where the phone is at now. Is it worth it in your opinion, odining back to eclair and doing the ota update? any benefits over SC?

I respect your opinions, if anybody else wants to chime in, feel free. Thanks a lot.

Wow, thanks for the compliments. I'll do my best to answer your questions and not screw up or tarnish your image of me. :p And for the record, there are any number of people who are more than qualified to answer these questions, so anyone else who wants to jump in and help out lbrenes with their opinions on these two subjects should feel free to. Also there are any number of people here who are infinitely more qualified than I to answer these questions.

1. Yes, despite my many protests against Voodoo I am now running voodoo. And despite my switch to voodoo, my stance on voodoo has not changed. It is not something brand new rooters should jump into. Rooters should be well versed in flashing radios, recoverys, etc. in ODIN and ROMs, themes, patches, mods, etc. in CWM before attempting voodoo. These things should be second nature. It would also be preferable if rooters run into some problems up to and including borking or possibly even soft bricking their phones so they have experience in problem solving and recovering from trouble before attempting voodoo. This is all so rooters can concentrate on the most important rule of voodoo - That they are on a voodoo kernel and as DroidXcon said "Nonvoodoo over voodoo = doodoo." You can check back as far as you want, I have never said anything different from this, and I never will. I think it is just good sound advice.

Now, enough of that and onto your question. I wouldn't say the benefits of voodoo are not worth it. I would just say, as gunnermike53 has said so I am agreeing with him and just passing on his info, the benefits and differences are not going to be earth shattering. The phone itself and most of the scrolling is not really what you would call faster per se. I have heard the difference described as "snappier" and I feel that is definitely the most accurate description. Going into and out of certain programs and apps is definitely faster because of the ext4 file system, and how quickly our phones scan and read that file system. With the voodoo control app from supercurio (awesome work from this guy and he deserves the little monetary support for the paid version of this app), you will definitely notice the voodoo sound improvements. You have to have the brightness of your phone turned up to 100% in order to enjoy the benefits of the voodoo color enhancements. For me, the SAMOLED screen at auto brightness makes me more than ecstatic, so I don't feel the need to go for the voodoo color enhancements.

2. I don't see any benefits in doing an ODIN back to Eclair in order to receive the ED01 OTA. You will be getting all the vzw bloatware crud so your phone will most likely go back to being laggy and slow. SC is likely cleaner, faster, and more solid than the ED01 OTA. I would normally advise you to upgrade from 2.9.1 to 2.9.2, but with the impending "community" ROM, I would say just stick with what you have until that gets released.

Hope this helps

All hail Landshark :D

And speaking of those infinitely more qualified to answer those questions, we have NOsquid. I'm just a guy who has a great memory so I can rattle off answers, and has gotten fairly good at flashing and rooting. NOsquid and several others I had in mind when I posted my response have all of the technical know how I am sorely lacking. But I'm doing my best when I can to probe their brains and absorb as much of their knowledge as I can.

Sharky is the man and is being to modest and humble, he is very good at all of this stuff and also has great knowledge!! Let me add my .02 cents. I recently went voodoo last week and as of right now I can say the screen is pretty cool when really lit up, you have high quad scores, and the phone just reacts a little bit faster for lack of better word. I really dont see it being that big of a deal. I only did it because I heard better battery life. Which I am getting now slowly but surely. Second as with what sharky said just hold off for now on the OTA(why would u want bing and bloat) the "community" rom will be coming hopefully soon. I would say go to 2.9.2 though. to do this follow these easy instructions set up by DX http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html

Opps... my mistake, I am on 2.9.2, I have for weeks.

Thanks so much for the input. I think I am going to stay off vodoo for a little longer, I am happy with the phone as is now. I keep the screen on autobrighness and I dont get the chipping noice some people report when playing music.

I think is good advice to wait for the comunity rom based off ed01. Why bring bing back into the picture. Again thanks for the feedback, you guys are great.

This community is great and thanks for sharing your questions. I'm sure there are others who have the same questions and now this discussion is out there for everyone to see.

What exactly is this "community rom" ? is it just the official release debloated?

No, it is a group of the devs working together, each lending their own specific field of excellence to put together a ROM. Hence "community." But it is based off the "EC01" leak
