Hey guys, I just got my Echo yesterday and after ample playtime I decided to root and remove some bloatware. Unfortunately enough, I ran into an issue due to my inexperience with the android OS (being that this is my first smartphone). I attempted removing the VueQue app with Titanium Backup not knowing issues it would cause. Ultimately, a force close loop ensued forcing me to battery-pull. Afterwards of rebooting, I found that the app menu entry had continued to exist, so I tried to remove it by using AndroidMate's file explorer to remove the file "com.kyocera.vueque.apk". This obviously did not work and for some reason Titanium Backup is inable to restore my backup of VueQue. (it simply stays at the 'restoring app...' screen until I hold the power button) The best solution I can think of is to somehow reinstall VueQue and pretend the whole charade didn't. even happen. However, the only way I can think of to do so is to run the .apk file that I deleted -_- If any of you echo users could provide me with a copy of it, it'd be most appreciated. Thanks! (feel free to make any other recommendation to an android newbie) Sorry for my lack of haste, I tend to try to run before I can walk when I get my hands on new tech :P

tl;dr: If you have an echo, upload a copy of /system/app/com.kyocera.vueque.apk

Use bloat freezer to freeze apps not uninstall them. I wish I could help but being on gingerbread means no root at least for now. I can't go into my files to get that for you.

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match

That's unfortunate. I didn't know you can't so much as access system files without root. Wow, no wonder so many find it necessary to root.

You need to remove not just VueQue.apk, you need to take out VueQue.odex and delete data/data/com.kyocera.vueque folder.

I'll up a copy of the app when I can

Here. Place them in you system/app directory. If you keep having issues you might have to do a reset

Oh, I'd thought since it was a .apk (Android PacKage file, I assume), I could just run it to reinstall the obex and whatnot, but thanks! ^_^

It's not just another android app, it's a stock app, most stock apps are split so the dalvik VM which runs everything can load them up faster. Thus most stock app have the apk and a odex file which combined form the app.

If you remove the apk, then it tries loading the odex without it which basically make the phone go insane. If you remove the odex, then when you load the app it'll just FC

Thanks, you've really cleared up a lot of my misconseptions on how this OS functions. I'm new to linux-like OS's so this is all a bit foreign to me. One more issue: "You don't have permission to copy to that directory". Will I need to use the debugging bridge? My phone is rooted so I don't see how I don't have permissions. Hard reset is starting to look attractive

No prob, just condensed some things I learned over time for you.

Hmmm that's a odd thing to pop up on a rooted phone, you might want to try copying it with a app that can access the system, I personally recommend Root Explorer or Ghost Commander since they can set the right permissions without having to use a terminal.

And always restart right after you change, delete, or add something to the system apps, will save you alot of trouble

Ghost commander retriver an error: "read-only file system" I can't figure out how to chmod the directory :\

Oh, your system isn't mounted rw then. You need to remount your system as rw then, forgot about that.

Type this in terminal
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtd1 /system

should fix that

Okay I mounted as read/write and copied the files over but still receive errors upon attempting to start VueQue. It's been so troublesome I've just chosen to freeze it, but I still would like to try to fix this as I don't like the idea of damaged system apps and this is a good excercise to help me learn the system.

I think you should remove all traces of it completely. Then make sure to restart a few times to get everything stable, then place it back in again and restart some more. With a little luck you'll be good to go. If you need any help after just let me know

I think if you delete the .apk even factory reset may not fix the issue.

I restored the apk but it still doesn't work after several reboots. Also, random reboots have persisted happening every so often. about once every 2 days
