VZW Gnex on prepaid service?

Will the Verizon Galaxy Nexus work on any prepaid service? I'm trying to save some money and would like to possibly go prepaid if that would help. My wife uses the Verizon Galaxy Nexus and it is nearing the end of its contract. Is there any option to move this phone to another cheaper provider or is it pretty much locked where it is due to CDMA vs. GSM compatibility issues? It doesn't even necessarily have to have data service either. Just voice and texting would be fine for her and then she could use wifi. But I'm thinking none of this is possible. If anyone knows otherwise, I'd appreciate it.

I don't know of any prepaid service (other than VZW prepaid) that would let you transfer GNex over. I do have a suggestion though: find a used GSM smartphone on ebay or Craigslist and then sell your VZW GNex. If you do your research you can break even or come out ahead. The GSM phones are more abundant on ebay it seems. Just make sure the phone you buy is fully compatible with whatever prepaid service you are going with. For example, not all GSM phones can access the T-Mo 3G/4G network. You could be stuck on edge. Just search to make sure.

If you want the VZW coverage and don't mind only 3G speeds, you could get the Straight Talk Cdma service. That uses VZW network but you don't get 4g speeds. My friend went that route and couldn't be happier. He couldn't transfer his VZW phone over but bought a smartphone through them.

I tried out T-Mo prepaid for a month but found it was extremely subpar. I had 3g/4g at my home but was mostly on edge or even gprs most other times (if I even had service at all). VZW has great coverage and I am on 4G LtE most of the time.
