The wife is eligible for her upgrade, she wants the D3, and I just got a DInc last year which I am happy with. BUT, the BOGO has me hating that we could get a free phone here. A friend of ours, also on VZW was thinkin about getting the D3 too... would it be possible for us to get the BOGO, but not activiate the one, sell it to my friend for half the cost and then they both get a D3 for 75 bucks, and I have a happy wife and a friend that will owe me one..LOL

Possible?

Nope, both phones have to be activated on new lines, or lines with upgrades available.

Ive tried that one before LOL

You could however, add a new line to your account for $10/mo, get the BOGO with the new line, then do whatever you want with the extra phone, as long as something is assigned to the new lines number (old dumb phone or whatever)

It's people trying things like this that made Verizon institute the $350 ETF.... you aren't eligible for the promotion... accept it and move on...

Thanks ...didn't think about my line requiring the upgrade eligibility. The wife has it but I used mine last year. Oh well. I like my Dinc so I can't complain. I just figured I'd make the most of it.. even if we just kept it.

Give me a friggin break. Yeah.. thats why there is a 350 fee. Any other company that has a BOGO offer for something, except cell companies, does it and doesn't give a crap what ya do with the 2nd thing. They put that 350 for the service.. not the phone. It was cuz people were floppin back and forth between companies there for a while because ATT, Sprint, TMobile had great deals for newcomers... but thats kinda gone away and most of them are close to the same on plans anymore.

They don't make squat on the phones. Heck I'm surprised they don't give some more phones away, especially if they really targeted those still on basic plans to bump them to smartphones with expensive data plans cuz thats where they make the money. If the phone it self was really worth like 500 as they say retail, then they wouldn't be offering a BOGO at 150. Its all just BS that companies do to make simple minds think they are getting a great deal. If you don't believe me go stand by a register at a store like Kohls and watch the peoples faces when the person at the register tells them how much they saved... please.. stuff is marked up so high anymore that even on BOGO sales they make money. But if you want to believe the 350 was instituted for people trying to get a BOGO deal and they were losing profit off that cuz people were sellin the phones to others or whatnot.. be my guest.

would have to agree here with this idea because of you still have a new every 2 available and another line that can get an upgrade you are getting 2 D3 for $150 so its hard to imagine they are making alot on the phones.

They make next to nothing on phones at full retail (and LOOSE money on them when they sell them subsidized). Store reps are actually discouraged from selling phones full retail. They make the money on the contract over time. Yes some people were jumping carriers but a lot of what was going on was people getting the high demand phone for free or next to nothing. Paying the piddly ETF, selling the phone for just below the carriers full retail price and making a tidy profit OR selling them unlocked to people overseas as was the case with the Blackberry Storm ($200 for the phone plus $175 ETF + $20 for an unlock code = $395 give or take but the phone could be sold for $500 or more). If they could get the phone for free there was even more profit for them.

The ETF was incensed a deterrent not simply to decrease profit to people who do this.

ETFs are to ensure that the subsidy is recouped one way or another.

Verizon can afford to BOGO because they rape your wallet with their high rates. They'll get that money back and then some.
