Wife and I are going away for a 5 day vacation next week and we want to be able to use our wif ipads on the network. Don't really feel like rooting my bolt because I don't want it wiped, so I called VZW today and they said they would pro-rate the hotspot for the 5 days we're gone if I add the service to my account on the day we leave and cancel it on the day we get back. Should be only $5 or $6 which isn't too bad. Just thought I'd pass that on.

According to the VZW rep I discussed this with...

Yes, you are right. I mentioned this a few days ago in a post. However, it is important to note that the proration will be for "days of use" only for those with unlimited MHS/MBBC. The cost is $1.00/day (i.e. $30/mo)

For those who are using the new MHS/MBBC tiered service the proration will be for both "days of use" and "allocated data amount". For example; if you have a $30/mo 4GB plan, that comes out to an average of 0.133GB per day authorized. So, if you used 4GB in 4 days, the proration would be: $4.00 (1 dollar a day) plus the difference between the data you are authorized (0.133GB/day) and what you have used. In 4 days you are authorized 0.133 x 4 = 0.532GB total. If you've used 4GB you will be "prorated" for a 3.468GB data overage at overage rates. So... at an overage fee of $10/GB your total days + data would be $4 + $34.68 = $38.68.

This is interesting - I wish it would just be automatic. I would like to just pay $1 on any day i use it without the hassle of calling twice. Now that would be convenient. It is a backup emergency thing for me when I cant get on the customer's network, or when travelling so this woul make me more likely to turn it on as needed.

Although the selection has not been there on my own MyVerizon account before, it is today! I guess it just took them a while to get it on the website. Or, it could be that my cycle rolled over on the 13th and they couldn't put it on there till then.

In any case, what I am saying is that you should be able to "toggle" this on/off at will via the MyVerizon website. I was told this would happen when I first placed the call to sign up.

i second this, i think it'd be nice to be able to travel and be able to use hotspotting without paying the $30/month fee. $5-$6 a day unlimited sounds fair to me.

$1/day for those of us with unlimited data ... at least for now.

Are you talking about the website rather than the app? Because I can't find it on the My Verizon app. :'(

Website.

Edit: HOLY SMOKES! I don't know what I was smoking, but I go there now and can't find a setting for it! What the.....

I'm sorry.... I guess I musta had a gray moment or something. Damn, I coulda sworn it was there. Darn.

Anyway, if you go to Change Features and select to View all features, you will see "4G SMARTPHONE HOTSPOT". Apparently this is the designator for unlimited MHS/MBBC. However, I can not find a way to turn it on/off on-line. You can sign up for the limited plans, but nowhere is the free unlimited plan. I guess we'll still have to call. The rep had told me different (big surprise). Anyway, he also told me you could turn it off/on whenever you wanted and be prorated. Even if you have to call that's still pretty good. I'm not gonna be the first one to test that because I actually need mine about every day. However, whomever does test that theory, please report your success/failure here...

I'll potentially be testing it starting Thursday through Monday.
