Wait for Droid Bionic and Take Risk not having unlimited or get a 4g phone already out there i"m on the fence on which to go with

Yeah if you own any smartphone with Verizon and have the $30 Unlimited Plan, you don't need to buy a 4G phone right now. You'll be grandfathered into Unlimited in your new contract. If you really want the Bionic, just wait for it, don't buy something you'll be unhappy with that you're gonna try to sell later.

no i do not have a smart phone now

From what i read you need get a smartphone before july 6 and your automatically grandfathered in the unlimited plan

I am kind of having the same dilemma. I'm in a cheap family plan in Verizon, but I do not have a smartphone currently. Recently, I've gained the income to afford one, and now I'm wondering if I should wait for the Bionic or Droid 3 or if I should settle for the Droid Charge or Thunderbolt while getting a nice 2 years of unlimited data.

I think I'm more inclined to just get a phone now on unlimited data, but then I still have to decide between Charge and Thunderbolt...

Don't go with the LG Revolution. It's got Bing. Any device with Bing shouldn't be supported and purchased IMO. The Charge has an amazing screen, but TouchWiz is not the best. I prefer Sense alot more than TW. Plus the Kickstand is amazing to get used to. The Battery life is pretty much the same, they both have 8MP cameras, both 4.3inch screen, both are pretty same in performance wise. Go to VZW, play with both of them, see which one you'd like best. But my opinion is the TBolt.

As the first 4G phone available, the thunderbolt and its owners have had to deal with growing pains often associated with early adoption. By the time the Bionic finally arrives, a lot of bugs will already be worked out, but beware...one of the main reasons (or so I've read) that the Bionic release has been delayed is because its dual core processor wasn't playing nice with LTE.

My point? While on boards like this it can seem like there are a lot of issues (because those with problems are more vocal), most if us who bought the thunderbolt are very happy with it, and its unlikely the Bionic wont be without its own issues.

The thunderbolt is a very well built, very fast device compared to the competition. While the Bionic's specs do look enticing, few users will probably utilize their phone in a manner such that the dual core processor will even be noticable.

Personally, id recommend jumping on an unlimited plan now. New phones get released all the time, so no phone will ever be "awesome" forever, but as more and more content is accessible via smart phone and network speeds get faster, it will definitely be advantageous to not have restrictions placed on the data you use...at least for while it lasts.

The thunderbolt and charge are pretty similar specs-wise. If the display quality is a selling point for you, the give the charge a look, otherwise I personally feel the thunderbolt edges it out in most other categories. Just my 2?.

I heard the battery life is not the same at all. Charge has a bigger battery that generally gives longer life from what I've heard. Other than that I think they're pretty much looking the same. Oh and Charge has the better display too.

The thunderbolt has more RAM and internal memory. The charge's battery is a bit bigger, but based on what I've read, the gain in battery life, while existant, isnt *that* significant.

I have Bing on my Bolt and it is not any problem, my son has a Revolution and in week 1 so far so good.

if you already have a smartphone with unlimited data, wait for the bionic to come out.

if you don't already have a smartphone, get one the day before vzw switches to tiered to lock in unlimited, then you'll have 2 weeks to decide if you want the tbolt or the bionic, if it's out by then :)

i think it's more of a matter of principal. replacing google with bing on an android phone is basically taking google's free open-source OS and then kicking them in the nuts and supporting microsoft instead. it's using google's platform to make microsoft money.

or at least that's what i think the issue is... maybe people just hate bing lol

Go on eBay or Craigslist and get a cheap Android phone (does not have to be 4G) to get the smartphone data plan and tide you over till the Bionic if that is what you want. All of the leaked documents are clear that you under the new system data plans are data plans except for the one 75mb one that is for feature phones only. It will not matter if you are 3G and 4G.

A lot of people are getting nervous because of the non committal answers they are getting from the VZW reps. In most cases they are not being evasive, they honestly have not been given specific details yet and don't want to tell you something that they will later find to be not accurate, and/or have been told not to talk about it.

If the battery lasts longer on the bionic than the thunderbolt because of the bionic's dual core's efficiency, then I'm sure that A LOT of thunderbolt owners will notice that would make them do the switch. :)

Only way to find it is to go to your local verizon store and have a hands-on on both phones. Then decide from there.

But the buttons on the Charge sucks. It's not capacitive like my Bolt and I like the Bolt's buttons bettter. :D

Really I tried the hands on test with TB and the Charge and the charge just seemed to cheap in its design compared to TB and other than the screen the Charge did not impress me any, I would say try them for yourself but the TB is the better device in my opinion...

The Bionic sounds like a good device but after Motorola pulling it to revise it flashes "PROBLEMS" to me and I don't see waiting for a device that will be one of those blind buys when it hits...

Also the Charge will have to wait till at least Christmas to get Gingerbread given Samsungs track record...
