Wait for the Bionic, or no?

Hello. First off, I am a new member, but I have been lurking the forums for a while, so I know whats up and all.

Long story short, I am a blackberry bold 9650 user on VZW, and I am ready to hop on over to android... problem is my dream phone is not coming (GS2).

So heres the question. My upgrade is up in 4 days. Should I get the Droid Bionic, or wait for the Nexus Prime?

My requirements in my next phone is 1GB of ram, dual core CPU, and 4g. Right now, I am thinking Bionic (as long as the screen is not as bad as some say it will be), but its a little underpowered CPU wise compared to other phones (GS2 at 1.2ghz, etc)

So, what would you recommend a blackberry geek? Right now the droid bionic is making me drool, but would like input from some real android geeks ;)

The bolded part is the answer to your question. If thats what your require, get the bionic. Want to wait for the prime? Then do that. Read the million and a half threads already here where people want some magic answer to this question...

I agree with 2defmouze . If you've been lurking in the forum and know whats up, you probably already have your decision and are just looking for validation. We're in the Bionic forum because 98% of us want the Bionic and of course are going to tell you that its what you should get. The other 2% are folks just comparing the Bionic to their 'next favorite phone'.

Wait, Don't wait, the only person that affects is you :) May your decision make you happy regardless of what that is.

ya, so bionic will probably be my next baby then. Im just very sick of my slow bold X_X sure it has a awesome keyboard, but no apps or speed -_-

The Bionic and the Prime have the same processor as long as it is an OMAP4. We wouldn't have had the Exynos processor in our GSII if we got one anyway, so it's best to not compare it with something you can't have. :P Aside from that, it's completely up to you. I've seen the Prime only having 480 resolution in some code off Sammy's own website, but it wasn't based on Verizon's model number. Tough to say if it really is going to have 720p.

My opinion: You probably don't want 720p running on these current processors unless it is pentile (or ICS comes bearing hardware acceleration, which I pray it does). Coming to either the Bionic or Prime is a huge step up from your current phone, so you will be impressed either way. Unless your performance assumptions are too high. If you want to rom you might want to wait because there is no guarantee the Bionic will ever be unlocked (in my experience with computers "impossible" is nothing more than a challenge for a good team of devs, though.). If your phone is currently a PoS, then it looks like the Bionic is it. We don't know much about the Prime, and probably won't for a few more weeks. This is all I can really say based on a phone I know nothing about.

The only think we know for sure is the Bionic will be released.

As of now the Prime is just a rumor. Confidence is high that the Prime will be released on VZW, but nothing is carved in stone. Just take your experience with the G2S.

If I were you, I would hold off a week or so after the Bionic is released, see what the general public has to say about it. If the general opinion is favorable on the Bionic, I would jump on it. If there are glaring problems, then wait for the Prime, and hope it or something better is released.

just my $0.02

We have documents detailing all of the Bionic's specs. I'm not sure there is anything we don't know about the phone.

Nexus/Droid/Whatever Prime is still an uncertainty at this point, so I wouldn't wait for that specifically if you are that in need of a new phone.

As far as the Bionic goes...I would wait for a chance to play with it first, read reviews, and gather first user impressions. Then make a decision off of that. If you're not feeling it, then wait for the next dual core LTE phone to come out. There will inevitably be another phone on the horizon.

Samsung Droid Prime is going to be a better phone.

Shipping with Ice Cream Sandwich!!! That's huge. Motorola Bionic sure isn't going to ship with ICS. But it will lock their bootloader and encrypt it!

I was just trying to answer the OP's question. Yes we know all of the specs for the Bionic, and they match what the OP is looking for. We have rumors about the Prime and its specs.

The point I was trying to make is since the Bionic seems to meet the OP's requirements, and we don't know for sure that the Prime is really coming, I would see how the bionic fairs with public use. If it is favorable, jump on it. If not, wait for the Prime...

Bionic is going to be a great phone I just think the Prime is going to be a tad better because of ICS and Super Amoled Plus.

But if you prefer pentile screen and motorola in general, Bionic is a great phone.

I think the Bionic is going to be epic. Remember that if you ever get a phone and something else comes along, there are always sites like Swappa for you to sell it in order to upgrade. One man's "trash"...you know the saying.

The GSII has a different CPU than the one that appears on the US versions. The US versions, if they are 1.2 Ghz, will be OVERCLOCKED OMAP4s most likely. If you want a faster CPU (can't see how you would need one faster than the OMAP4 at 1 Ghz) you can root it and overclock it anyways. It's just how the manufacturer makes the phone, underclocked, or overclocked. I mean, Motorola COULD technically make the Bionic overclocked to 1.2 Ghz, but it doesn't need it. And it uses more battery life, something that the LTE radio is already going to do.
There's a good chance you won't see LTE on the Prime (which is what you really want), and probably won't get a 720p screen on it either. And please don't be one of those people who freak out at the Pentile screen without seeing it. Go down to Verizon and look at the Droid X2 or Droid 3, or wait until you can see a floor Bionic model. Seriously, you can't really see the pixels without the phone like IN YOUR FACE. It really does affect battery life, and brightness.
The Bionic should be exactly what you want because of what information you posted. Now, when we will stop seeing these huge amount of floods of these people asking if the Bionic is good for them? Make a decision based on what you see, but don't make an entire thread dedicated to asking if you should get it. Almost every time you'll get YES.

The Bionic screen is supposedly much better looking than its predecessors.

Bionic will be getting ICS, at least I'm pretty sure. Any gingerbread phone can run it according to Google, it'll just take a little longer for the Bionic to get it.

Like he said, Post this in the Bionic Forums and most will tell you to get the Bionic. Post this in the Prime forums and most will say the prime.

This should be rather easy for you to decide. At this point decide how important hacking/Vanilla ICS is to you. If the answer is not much or not at all get the Bionic. If this is at the top of the list wait for the prime. Not saying this wont be possible on the Bionic, Just easier on the prime.

Bottom line coming from a blackberry either one is going to blow you away! Especially with LTE!

The thing is that we don't know if the Prime will come with an LTE Radio (which is what he really wants) and/or it will have terrible battery life if it does. Just saying, Samsung will do the same thing they did with the Charge. Now the Charge isn't as bad as the Thunderbolt, but the battery still is questionable.

Totally forgot this was not confirmed. Considering the I5 will not have LTE, Google wont necessarily need it either to compete directly with Apple. Decision made then, Get the Bionic. At least thats guaranteed to meet his needs.
