Wait for the HTC car cradle / dock ?

I've had a pair of EVO 4G's since the week they were released and have been quite happy. However it is amazing to me that there is no car kit yet and Sprint doesn't have any new information.

I have the HTC Sprint silicone case hoping it will fit the dock when it comes out. I read somewhere that when the official car dock comes out, it will have special "car modes" that are only accessible with this dock. I think it just changed a bunch of settings but I don't have more details than that.

Does anyone know if there is any advantage to this dock over buying a generic one and a cigarette lighter adapter? Is there a special car mode or can I just use that mode on any dock (and how do i get to it?) And for that matter, any new information on when it's due out?

That is the 1 thing i've been waiting patiently for since my day 1 purchase of the EVO.. i can't wait to have a nice car dock! Sorry i don't have any answers.. i just share in your desire for the car dock

If you want to use a universal car mount you can just use the "Navigator" app already on the phone. I believe I read some where that that is what the car dock will use anyways. It does not have a landscape orientation though.

I got a universal bean bag dash mount for $15 while waiting for the HTC one but the more I use it, I really don't see the point of getting the official one. The one I got works just fine and works with any case (it just clamps the phone in). Most of the time I don't even bother plugging the phone in since I don't have battery issues.

Its called vaporwear. The way HTC plays the game is they announce all kinds of accessories and then wait to see how well the phone sells. It it hits a certain number they make the accessories, if it doesn't then they don't. The EVO will never sell well because HTC can't get the screens to make them and by the time they do the EPIC will be taking all of the EVO sales.

If you don't believe me then look at the Nexus1. HTC announced a dock for it as well but then never produced it because the phone did not sell well enough due to Google's stupid web store strategy.

The pictures of the HTC car mount may look good (although it may change before release) the universal mounts from BB, RS and Bracketron (among others) provide what we need - at a cheaper price. I guess it's based on individual preference.

Personally, I'll go with functionality and price any day over a label.

I gathered that the HTC mount would have some advantages such as a special car mode and automatically charge when in the dock. However, doing a manual plugin isn't that big of a deal and it seems that the "car mode" is really just navigator (or navigation, i get confused). If that's the case then I'll probably just get a generic one.

Looks great. I've been eyeing the cup holder version. For 20 bux I might jus have to get one.

Either version seems like a great option.

Does the vent mount flip sides easily or do u have to re-mount it when going from vertical to horizontal.
