Waking phone does not always prompt me to use finger print scanner

In the Screen Lock Type setting I have Fingerprints. At times when I wake the device it looks for me to use my saved fingerprint, but most times it still expects me to use swipe style to unlock. Any thoughts on why it is inconsistent?

Check how long you have screen lock set for.

I bet you have smart unlock on for location

Actually, both are off or not enabled.

so you have the device set to fully lock immediately upon screen timeout and/or hitting the lock button? And if so, it still reverts to a simple swipe across the lock screen sometimes?
