I haven't been able to access Google Wallet for a few days, similar to troubles reported by users of the Verizon GN. But, something new today: there is now an error saying "Device not Supported", which links to a message warning that Google frowns upon rooting, and that Wallet won't tolerate such violations of security.

I have a Sprint NS4G using CM9.

Just a heads-up.

I get the same message on Codename Android. Why would they frown upon rooting? That's the main reason I buy android lol

mine says something about a upgrade but its been like that for over a week now.......

Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk

Here is the exact message:

"Some users may disable important security mechanisms in order to gain system-level 'root' access to their phone. We strongly discourage doing so if you plan to use Google Wallet. We are unable to support devices with unauthorized operating systems as the security layers of the device may be limited."

Oh well, no more Google Wallet for me. Bad move on Google's part. Wallet is already having troubles what with competing platforms coming out, and Verizon banning it. Now Google locks out a bunch (not many, granted) of early-adopters.

Whuh? They already said they won't have Wallet on rooted phones. How much more clear can they be?

Since Wallet is already locked out of the biggest provider (Verizon), it is a dead end. It is not apparent that any NFC alternative will succeed. People will have to stop carrying wallets. Until drivers' licenses and insurance become smartphone apps, you may as well put a debit card in your physical wallet.

I'm not even a little bit concerned that nfc will be killed or not. I have no interest in it being on my phone. As a matter of fact the entire service is disabled on my phone and would remain so even if it worked properly.

If you like conspiracy stories and theories, nfc is the first step towards putting chips in our bodies for identification, banking, location and more. :p lol

Goggle's not frowning on rooting, they're just saying that wallet could be made unsecure on a device with root access.

Just like many of the apps that require root access to run, wallet requires your phone to be unrooted for security reasons. You need to decide what is more important, rooting or wallet.
