Title says it all. In my local ad, YMMV.

Saw this too. Doesn't say which size but I'm gonna guess its the 8GB. Also gonna guess its with a 2-yr contract.

nothing about a contract? well they dont have them. misprint? i will take two one for the left hand one for the right

It is on contract, hence the "with activation" in the ad. I also assume 8 GB but who knows.

Tmo claims they don't do contracts but if you buy a phone from them in installments its a contract. At least one state has told them they can no longer claim they don't do contracts.

Looking into it at Walmart's site it doesn't list that price but says "With new T Mobile account."

And the spec on the site says 16 GB.

T-Mobiles ETF fee is $200 so you could buy this and save money over Google Play store if you decide to take it to AT&T. I think Google Play prices with tax and shipping is around $380.

Third party retailers (like Walmart) still use contracts with T-Mobile. Yes, this deal requires you signing a two year contract.

So you figure out how much the 2 year contract is going to cost you, and then what you could get without a contract and the difference is what you are really paying for the phone. I bet you would be way ahead buying the phone directly from Google Play, and getting a no contract T mobile account.

Is the T-Mobile etf $200? If so, wouldn't u be getting the phone for $279 if u cancel ur contract? Am I missing something?

Plus a month of service. I don't believe you can cancel the account right away. Also, you normally have to keep your account open until you get any rebates you may be expecting.

First, that's a bit of work to save not much money.

Second, the etf is one thing, but there is also a payout for the remainder of the price of the phone (I believe)

So if you buy a subsidized Galaxy note 2 for $200, you pay the etf plus the remaining cost of your subsidized phone.
Pretty sure that means you pay: etf + (cost of phone - (payments made on phone - interest paid so far))

So you buy for 200, they subsidize 400, you pay monthly fee + $2/mo interest. You terminate, so you pay the remaining balance on the 400, plus the etf

Nope there is no payment for the remainder of the phone if you buy the phone from Wal-Mart.
