Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Scary

Re: Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Sc

The Nexus is by far the best phone. I haven't experienced any of the data drops people are talking about. I even showed it to an AT&T Atrix user and he's considering jumping to VZ/Nexus!

I am very happy with it. I tore off the cheesy VZ screen protector, slapped on a Skinomi, rooted it, and enjoy the hell out of it. Even the IPhone 4S users make fun of me because of it's size, but I can tell that they're not happy and excited as I am with my Nexus.

As others have said, go with your gut instinct. If you want it, get it. You won't regret it.

Have had less issues with the gn then i did with the razr with data

Re: Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Sc

I went to the verizon store today because my thunderbolt broke. Was pretty settled on getting a Nexus. The rep at the store told me to get a razr maxx instead. He said people came in droves because of issues on the Nexus.

I didn't end up getting the razr because I wanted to go back home and do some research - and 'lo behold he was right. There are a huge amount of complaints about the data drop problem, pages upon pages of complaints from different people. I honestly have not seen so many complaints about a new phone before, seems a little odd to me.

Are these just growing pains for a brand new phone with a brand new OS on it? Has there been any word from Google or Samsung about a fix? I would like to wait it out and see if it ever gets fixed, but with a broken phone I need to get something soon, like tonight or tomorrow.

if you're that scared, don't get one.

back in December I had some drops of lte but no longer. Its been smooth sailing ever since. In fact at home I regularly have 3-4 bars on lte. I can't imagine not using the GN and ICS.

I won't lie. I get data drops VERY often. It's extremely frustrating, but I'm just dealing with it because I love the phone otherwise.

I get data drops very often as well. Infact everyday I get about a ten min data drop because I drive from 4g coverage to 3G and back to 4g. To prevent it I have to force 3G all day.

I leave mine on 3g only, but I still will get data dropping.

Ouch! That would drive me nuts because I stream tinyshark/doods music/pandora while driving.

I agree, but I love the phone so much that I can live with it. It's the best 3G phone I've ever had lol

Here, Here! The GNex IS the best 3G phone ever made. No doubt about it!

I think you should skip the Nexus. You'll be awed by it's screen & ICS, but you will get quite frustrated with the hardware.

The Maxx will get ICS soon enough.

how could you even say that I bought my galaxy nexus because that I felt I would be getting support by google. I had no interest in gaming on my cellphone at all so hardware really has nothing to do with my decision at all it's just like people who selects iphones they feel like you're getting what they pay 4 I will be patient im confident knowing my phone is awesome:D

Easy. I wasn't talking to you, I was answering the OP's question.

I'm glad you like your Nexus. Enjoy it.

Re: Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Sc

OP here,

I just picked up the Nexus today. Not really too impressed with the signal compared to my thunderbolt. The phone is stuck in 3G and OCCASIONALLY hops onto 4G where I work - and takes it's sweet time to switch at that. Whereas, with the Tbolt I got a constant 4G signal - rarely ever saw it hop into 3G regardless of where I was at (home, work, commuting, etc).

The OS is awesome, and the screen is great - snappier than my Tbolt in browser and switching programs etc. I might take it back and try out a Razr to see how the signal fares while I'm at work. I spend 8 hours a day at work, so if I am paying for a 4G phone, I better darn well get 4G where I'm at most of the day.

What's weird, is that I 'usually' connect to our wireless network here at work when I had the Tbolt. With the nexus, it has problems staying connected to our work network wirelessly. I just take off wireless mode and have it connect to 3G/4G, seems to work better. Does the nexus have a weaker wireless antannae than the Tbolt?

Re: Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Sc

I know someone who had a thunderbolt and they have the opposite reaction, they get 4G signals with the GNex in places that their Thunderbolt only had 3G. I can't really say any more than that since this is my first 4G phone.

However, from my experience, I have never had a dropped call and only a very short period of dropped data when switching (not even a full minute). I also manage to keep a solid 4G connection everywhere except inside the building I work. I know it has to do with the building more than anything though (Verizon is the only carrier that manages to get service into this building.)

Also, comparing my GNex to my wife's Droid RAZR, they are both very smooth and are great phones. Blur is by far the best manufacturer skin and has a lot of awesome features. I also feel that smart actions is one of the coolest built in features that have appeared in one of these skins so far. GNex has ICS though, and it is the first Android phone that I have ever owned that I have never felt the need to root and put custom ROMS on.

If custom ROMs and unlocked bootloaders are imprtant to you, then I wouldn't bother even trying the RAZR, you would be happier with the GNex. If that isn't important to you, then I do recommend giving the Droid RAZR a spin and see which one you like better. If you have any specific questions about the two of them feel free to ask and I'll answer what I can. :)

Re: Want to get a Nexus But Data Dropping Reports are a Little Sc

I am only in a 3g area, however, I am having dropped data more frequently these days with my GN, losing data and my 4 bars to no bars while sitting at my desk at work. It takes a battery pull to bring it back. However, my major complaint is I can be talking and randomly, the person I am talking to comes through to me fine, but they stop hearing me. They say everything is clear and then my voice transmission just stops coming through on their end, again, I still hear them fine saying, Are you there, until one of us hangs up and redials. This is now happening several times per week and its frustrating to say the least when I am on a business call. Verizon seems to have no answer for either problem. If anyone has insight let me know, thanks

Only insight is their are threads about the mic cutting out in this forum:

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...4657-ok-lets-get-root-mic-cutout-problem.html

http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...ting-out-mid-call-seems-widespread-issue.html

http://forums.androidcentral.com/verizon-galaxy-nexus/154056-4-0-4-update-mic-issue-fixed.html

And this:

Issue 24019 - android - Galaxy Nexus mutes mid-call - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

Would be a good idea to see what worked for some ppl, what update(s) worked for some ppl, etc.
